Aya has become a favourite restaurant for our family reunions and take-aways in recent years because the food is excellent and the staff and atmosphere are really welcoming. However, we just received really disappointing service on Mother's Day from an extremely callous and rude staff member who definitely shouldn't be in a customer-facing role. It felt like she was deliberately out to humiliate us and ruin a family reunion. For example, she refused my 80+ year old mum a glass of water to take her medication. She insisted we buy bottled water on top of our other drinks (which are already £5 for a soft drink). She bullied my elderly mum and her 80-year old partner to order more far food than they could eat, despite their small appetites and health issues. If they hadn't pre-ordered before I arrived, I would have insisted we left. She left our drinks sitting on the bar for ages and refused to bring them over when we asked, so no water or drinks for some of our table. The restaurant wasn't even that busy at that time. One of our party was left without cutlery and ended up having to get in themselves. It was puzzling, as if she was on some kind of power trip.
The take-away was booming and I'm sure this restaurant will continue to do well as it has some loyal customers; unfortunately we won't be...
Read moreI have been here before when the service and food was excellent .This however was the worst experience ever! The young man at the desk was unfriendly and did not welcome us upon arrival. The restaurant had only one other family eating in at the time. We arrived at 7.50pm which was five minutes late for our booking and were told there were no dates to open fast. No apology and no attempt to assist us he just about managed to bring us water. For starter we ordered hummous and flat bread which was served cold no attempt to warm the bread even. Halloumi fries were nice.. The mains were chicken shish with chips, chicken sharwma with chips and a measly salad of lettuce only. These were average portions and not best tasting or freshly cooked. Throughout the meal there was no attempt to check if food was ok. Had to pay cash they dont take card. Dont bother booking on The Fork by the way the 20% discount offered is a lie . He told me prices were inclusive of discount which is really dishonest as i dont know what prices were before. As i was paying he asked if food was ok not that he cared or bothered whilst we were eating in These people dont care about customer service they just want your money . There are plenty of other good places to eat in Steatham so give this...
Read moreWent to Aya due to all the good reviews but I'm sorry to say the food was very average. I am Middle Eastern and have spent my whole life eating Lebanese food and was really looking to a taste of home but unfortunately I left Aya feeling disappointed and 50 pounds poorer. The starter mezze platter was very average. The kibbe was not tasty in my opinion. The garlic sauce they offer is watered down and is no way near the authentic and fresh Lebanese garlic paste. To be fair the meat in the mixed grill was ok, but again nothing special. The only thing we KIND OF enjoyed was the batata harra (spicy potato) but it wasnt fresh. The waitress was pleasant enough. However at the end of our meal, one of the staff offered us a complimentary baklawa, which is a nice gesture, however she picked them up with her bare hands, which I'm sorry is really off putting. I'm giving it 3 stars just to be nice but in all honesty it is far too expensive for what is basically a kebab shop and the food is very average. To the team at Aya do better and make...
