I recently visited a board game cafe in town, hoping to spend an enjoyable evening with friends playing some of our favorite games. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be quite disappointing due to several reasons.
Firstly, the seating arrangements were very poor and uncomfortable. The chairs were old and creaky, and the tables were too small for the number of players we had. We ended up feeling cramped and uncomfortable, which detracted from the fun of playing games.
Secondly, the cafe's environment was very loud and distracting. There was no separation or walls between the tables, which made it difficult to concentrate on our games. The noise from other players and their games was overwhelming and made it difficult to hear each other.
Finally, the food options were very limited, and the quality of the food was not great. We were expecting to have a good selection of snacks and drinks to keep us fueled throughout the night, but unfortunately, the options were few and far between.
Despite these shortcomings, I believe that the board game cafe could be improved with a few changes. One possible improvement would be to hang up some walls or tarps between the tables to help separate the players and create a more private atmosphere. This would make it easier to hear each other and concentrate on the game at hand.
Additionally, the cafe could benefit from expanding their food and drink menu to offer a wider variety of options, including vegetarian and vegan options.
Overall, I would not recommend this particular board game cafe due to the poor seating, loud environment, and lack of food options. However, with some improvements to the space and menu, it could become a more enjoyable destination for board...
Read moreBoard games, beer, coffee, snacks and Warhammer at a decent price.
I don’t know anything about Warhammer, but by the amount of space, stuff on offer and passionate people there, clearly this is one of the places to be. My kids watched people paint models and painstakingly create setups. It may not be our thing but there’s no doubt it is theirs.
We came to play board games with friends, a great deal given kids under 16 are free and adults are £5 to play an unlimited amount of games.
Decent sized tables, hot chocolate, tasty bottled beer and snacks helped us have an enjoyable 3 hours or so. It does seem like you might need to reserve in the evening.
The decor is part ‘stripped back’ and part ‘instagram paint strips’ with some tasteful addition of plants. It works, doesn’t feel too overbearing or arty cafe.
The toilets are decent though right at the back past all the Warhammer tables. There’s lots of just normal tables at the front which are ideal for parties of 4-6.
Staff were friendly and clearly had personality in the best way possible. It was quick to order and all the food and drinks were well made with everything looking clean.
There are definitely other ‘board game’ cafes and this one is certainly more than that, but it’s one of choose again as a comfy and welcoming...
Read moreBrilliant roleplay and tabletop gaming. Perfect for first timers and seasoned gamers alike. My first time there. Big Moon is a big, open space with an area up front for boardgames and then 8-10 big tables set up for tabletop (like Warhammer) or roleplay games (like Dungeons & Dragons). On Thursdays they put on one-shot DND games, providing the Dungeon Master (DM), ready-made characters and everything you need. We played last night with two friends who had never played before, and two people we'd never met, and it was brilliant! Really well explained, excellent, engaging DM-ing, and a super friendly atmosphere. It's pretty sparsely decorated - think concrete pillars, bare ceilings, and brightly lit. not exactly romantic or intimate but perfect for gaming. If you just want to come and boardgame, there is a huge collection and a small fee (I think £4 per person). There's a small cafe with hot and cold drinks, snacks, booze (c.£17 for a bottle of house wine) and a small selection of hot food. They order in pizza from a nearby place, c.£15 for a large (plenty for two to share) and really good quality. 5 mins road from Borough tube. I will...
