London Pub MapLondon Pub Map
🚇 Elephant &Castle 🍺 £6.20 Utopian Lager ❤️ An engaging on point pub. . The Spit & Sawdust is located on a quiet side street not far from the Bricklayer’s Arms roundabout at the top of Old Kent Road. The nearest Tube is Elephant & Castle, it’s about a ten minute walk to get here. . This pub was originally built in 1869 as The Beehive. During WII it was hit twice in separate air raids sadly killing eight people, it was rebuilt in its current guise just after the war. This pub closed it’s doors in 2014 and was thankfully resurrected in 2016 under new management and changed its name to the Spit & Sawdust. . The decor here is contemporary and combines the old and the new very well. The seating is a mix of comfy chesterfield sofas, winged chairs and stools around poser tables. At the centre of the bar is a stylish servery which is clad in timber and has a cool set up for their keg taps. The are TV’s showing live sport dotted around the bar and a shuffleboard table which is a good addition to any pub. There is a rooftop terrace to hangout In the warmer months and an ingenious designed beer garden that makes great use of the outside space. . The beer lineup was impressive, lots of local London breweries are represented here across the 19 taps to choose from. I thought I’d try out the Utopian Lager which hails from Devon, not my usual type of tipple but nice enough all the same. The food menu is Mexican, there is a good selection of Tacos, Quesadillas and Churros if you fancy a bit of tucker. . I visited around 4pm on a Saturday and there was a buzzy but laid back atmosphere, if that makes sense. There was a trendy crowd in attendance with limited moustache’s on show. There is a very cool vibe here, it was easy to settle in and enjoy the surroundings. To keep you entertained, there is a pub quiz on a Tuesday and a Disco on a Saturday. . The @spit_n_sawdust ticked a lot of boxes for me. The beer choice was diverse and local, the environment welcoming and relaxed. There is also plenty to keep you entertained to make a day/night of it. Hats off, great set up. 🍻 . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 11.03.23

The pub is a cosy local place to relax and enjoy the time As a Mexican this is my honest and real opinion!! The food are real Mexican flavor, soo good quality, real ingredient hand made The birria meat is so flavor and tender, the tostadas are crispy fried corn The tortas, are "Mexican panini" are very good prepared, sweet meat cooked for hours, much much better than a regular burger You should try the loaded fries! If you are vegan there are full of flavor option, "soy en pastor" and "tostadas de nopalitos" Tacos Baja, captured the real flavor of the Mexican north coast Fresh, tasty, crispy, tender, full of flavor all the option The Churros are soo delicious, crispy, and the cajeta real flavor The portions are really fair! But real Mexican flavor

I feel extremely lucky to have chanced upon this pub whilst searching for a local pub on Google Maps. I organised a gathering in the upstairs and roof terrace and the experience couldn’t have been better. The staff was very helpful throughout, checked in with me before the event, catered for all my needs, I had full confidence that the day would run smoothly. On the day the guests were incredibly impressed by the beautiful decor and the comfort of the outside terrace. The beer selection and food was great, the staff were very helpful throughout. We all had an enormously good time. I didn’t get the chance to enjoy the newly built beer garden but it looks beautiful and I can’t wait to try it out. Thank you so much for a great afternoon!

So I've been here a couple of times and yesterday was for my friends private function. They have a good range of drinks and the upstairs bit was nice, food was basic and average but cheap enough not to be upset.

My main issue yesterday was I was left in tears from a member of staff's behaviour. My partner ordered me a drink at the bar and when he got upstairs with it, it just didn't taste right. I went downstairs and explained to the server that it was supposed to be a pink gin and lemonade but this wasn't right and could I get another one she rolled her eyes at me and started slamming things around making another one. She slammed it down without looking at me, I said thank you and took a sip before I left to check it, I saw her make it so I know it wasn't anything she did. She started serving someone else and I waited and she looked at me expectantly and huffed and I said sorry i think your lemonade tap has gone, she snapped at me that she would sort it in a minute. I said thank you and waited. Whilst waiting another staff member asked if she could help, I started to explain that her colleague had made me the drink but I thought their lemonade must be finished and the original sever shouted at me that she would serve me in a minute but was busy. I said that was absolutely fine but her colleague asked me so I was just explaining because she asked. She then made another drink using a can of lemonade, slamming things around and huffing and puffing the whole time, I apologised even though it wasn't my fault and I'd been nothing but polite, she then slammed my drink down so hard some of it spilt onto the bar and didn't look at me or say anything at all to me. I said thank you and walked off. I don't like confrontation like that and I really wasn't in the head space to be shouted at or have someone be rude to me, she'd been fine earlier in the day so I'm not sure what happened. I burst into tears on my way up the stairs, her colleague bumped into me and asked if I was ok i said sorry but your colleague was just really rude to me and she said she'd come up in a min but didn't, that's fine, not an issue. But it took me a while to settle down and I wouldn't go to the bar after that because I didn't want to be faced with this woman being abusive again. It just really tainted what was otherwise a lovely...

I recently hired the function room of Spit and Sawdust for my 30th birthday party and thought the pub was excellent.

The booking staff were very helpful in answering questions that I had before the event and were also flexible when I asked to move the event to an earlier start time because of train strikes.

The private room itself is a really good size, looks really cool with its vintage vibe and it is great to have the private outdoor terrace and private bar for guests. It was also good to have the PA system so that we could play our own music. They ensured that a couple of delicious beers were on tap and there was also a great selection of soft drinks, spirits and wine, as well as being able to head downstairs to the main pub for an even greater selection of delicious craft beers.

The food was also excellent, we were very impressed with the Mexican food and there were lots of vegan and gluten free options. It was all reasonably priced and very tasty.

The staff were very attentive and helpful, making sure we had everything that we needed and offering quick and efficient service. We had our own staffed bar in the private room which was great and meant we never had to wait too long for drinks.

The hire fee and minimum spend were very reasonable for what was included in the booking and drinks and food were also well priced. The deposit was also refunded promptly.

Overall everyone had a fantastic night and I would highly recommend booking the private room for an event. The pub itself is also lovely with a friendly atmosphere, shuffle board, good food and a great beer selection. I will definitely be returning if I am...
