As wine lovers we selected this venue for its extensive wine list, which appeared to align with our preferences. Despite the higher-than-average pricing compared to other London and West End establishments, we felt confident in our choice. Upon arrival, we ordered a bottle of Sforzato Valtellina Fay Ronco Del Picchio 2018 at £130 as listed on the menu. However, when the wine was served, we didn’t immediately notice that the bottle served was from the 2021 vintage. It wasn’t until after a few sips that we realized we were drinking a significantly younger wine. Serving a wine vintage different from what was ordered is not only misleading but also unacceptable, especially when ordering a finer wines like the 2018 vintage. Despite this, we didn’t raise a complaint at the time. We proceeded to order a second bottle, Vega Sicilia Pinta 2018 priced at £190, and enjoyed a selection of dishes. Our total bill for three people came to £400. Due to some confusion around the bill (one of our friends secretly paid it), we left the venue without seeing the final breakdown.
Upon reviewing the charges, we noted that the Sforzato Valtellina Fay Ronco Del Picchio 2021 was charged at £130, as same as 2018 on the menu. For wine lovers, the difference in vintage is significant, and the experience didn’t reflect the standard we expected.Additionally, charging the same price for much younger wine that was not ordered and does not reflect the value of the older vintage is not only unfair but also a violation of Consumers Act 2015, which entitles consumers that much description.
We followed up the next day with an email to request a copy of the bill for clarification, but we have yet to receive a response. Based on this lack of follow-up, we will not be returning to this venue in the future neither would recommend it. We believe there is a need for better training in how to handle wine orders and ensuring that customers are informed about any discrepancies before their...
Read moreI've been to Bedales twice and have had a generally good experience on both occasions.
First time I went there it was pure coincidence as my partner and I were walking around the market on a Sunday when most stalls are closed so finding this little gem when both of us were hungry, saved the day! We sat at the bar and were served rather quickly. We had a glass of wine each, the mixed platter for £24 and the raclette for £8. The mixed platter is a great option as it has a good selection of cheeses and cold meats/spreads. The cheese portions are rather small but very tasty. It even comes with sobrassada! (if you've been to the Balearic islands, you know what I'm talking about). The only downside is that it doesn't come with enough bread for two people. I would suggest that some more slices are provided!! I did not like the raclette, however, as it had dijon mustard at the bottom and made the dish increadibly strong. I had never found mustard in a raclette, but there you go. This is something that should be placed on the side, in my opinion.
The second time I went it was a Friday eve. My friend and I had a glass of wine each at the bar whilst we were seated, it was rather busy. After about 10min we had a table downstairs (it's a basement if I remember correctly). Unfortunately, the staff didnt notice us and had to ask for the food menu myself. I skipped the raclette and went straight for the mixed platter which was as food as the last time I had been there.

Read moreTalk about pretentious! We stopped by the location in Borough Market to drink some wine on 5.29.24 at 3:50pm.
My girlfriend and I were walking around the amazing market and eating food all afternoon and we wanted to get off of our feet. We had some bread with us that we had just purchased. Before we could even approach the host, he started gesturing with his body language "no". He then let us know because we had food from the market that we could not come in. We were surprised but understanding of their policy, so I asked if I took the food outside of the market if my girlfriend could order some wine and sit down. He again so "no". "No" seemed to be his favorite word.
I asked him, "because we have food, even if I take it outside of the store area, we can't purchase any wine from you?" He affirmed, "yes". We were prepared to buy a bottle or two (this place wasn't cheap) because we were very parched and ready to begin our evening. It has more to do with his attitude than what he was saying - very negative and sassy.
The amount of money this poor business owner must lose because of 1 manager/employee with a bad attitude . You have to at least pretend to like your job when dealing with this many people. I would think the vast majority of patrons approaching the store have purchased food in the market. We are visiting friends and family in UK from NYC and will certainly let all our UK onophiles know about...
