Shame I can't give -1 for this place..
On Saturday night I had the misfortune to enter this place and didn’t know at the time it would be the biggest regret of my life.
My friend ordered a round of drinks in this place and not only did they get the order wrong, but she was also falsely accused of LYING about the order. While I was observing this, at no point did my friend lose her temper or act in a menacing manner, but the server seemed to have a deep problem with my friend that I can only assume she speaks like this to all customers – who sheepishly accept such rude behaviour as a ‘Peckham ting’. What I found so horrific about her behaviour was this was the second round of drinks my friends was buying, and we put the rudeness down to the server was having a bad day.
But to get the drinks wrong and then accuse my friend of lying was disgusting behaviour. When my friend protested the drinks were wrong, she then asked everyone TO LEAVE THE BAR. We walked out in disgust.
As local residents who have lived in Peckham for decades, its heartbreaking to see new establishments spring up with non-locals who treat local people like this. We were hoping to make this place our community drinking hole, but it seems to be run by complete and utter money grabbers who do not seem interested in building ties with the community. As someone who frequents bars all over London, I would assume a server who gets a round wrong to simply make it right, they are paying customers who are trying to have a pleasant evening with friends, not causing trouble or being rude in any way. But to be chucked out??
I would advise anyone to never enter this place, until they learn how to treat...
Read moreI have wanted to try the Beer Rebellion for a few years now and finally got to try it. It was not what I was expecting. It’s classed as a beer hall on Google but I would class it as a micropub. When you think of a craft beer or real ale micropub you probably think of old or middle aged men or trendy bearded hipsters. That could not have been more different when I visited the place. For a start at 60 years old, I was the oldest person in the place and the rest of the clientele seemed to be students. The barman was a punk rocker, with his face covered with tattoos and make up whilst wearing a kilt but he, along with the other bar staff were friendly and polite and efficient. The beer selection at the pumps was limited compared to other micropubs, but what was on offer was varied and very good. I don't know if the beer at the pumps are regular or changed over time. They also have a selection of canned craft beers on offer. The single unisex toilet was something to see. The ceiling was covered in some sort of creeping vine and the walls, door and toilet cistern were covered completely in graffiti tagging. When I visited on a Saturday afternoon, they were setting up a DJ sound system so going by the age of the clientele I doubt I would have fitted in later in the evening. This place is very much a place for the younger generation, but it’s good to see the younger generation getting into quality beer instead of the cheap mass produced dross of tied brewery chain pubs. If you’re young then this is a pub I would highly recommend, but it’s just not for me, although I did...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed right nearby Beer Rebellion at an Airbnb and made a point of stopping in on our last night in London before heading home to the USA. Beer Rebellion was a nice little place to bring some takeout (takeaway in Britain, apparently) from a nearby place, sit down, and have a couple beers at a decent price. They had a wide variety of drinks at a fair price. The only thing that I wasn't particularly pleased with was that the drinks weren't very cold. I'm not sure if that's a British thing, or something specific to Beer Rebellion, but it made our beverages a bit less satisfying than a properly...
