London Pub MapLondon Pub Map
🚇 Queens Road Peckham đŸș £4.70 Fosters The Asylum Tavern is located in a quiet residential street at the northern end of Peckham. The nearest station is Queens Road Peckham. The pub was originally built in 1856, the pub you see today was built in the late 1930’s. This pub is named after the ‘Licensed Victuallers’ Asylum which was built in 1827 just up the road. Asylum traditionally meant ‘sanctuary’ and the buildings were actually a home for the elderly and retired pub landlords. This is traditionally decorated three bar pub that has a proper oldschool feel. The largest bar is at the front right and is decorated light grey, has some comfy red velour banquettes, a fireplace plus black and white photos of film stars around the walls. Just to the left is a snug with a screen on the wall and a small hatch like servery. At the back, is the third bar which is similarly decorated and has a pool table, a dartboard a GAA Dublin flag and a St George’s Cross. The servery intersects each bar and is well weathered. The beer line up is a choice of familiar keg beers from mainstream breweries. I decided on a Fosters, my pint was decent, price point was reasonable at under a fiver. Food wise, I did see a Pukka Pie warming oven but i’m not sure if it was in use. I arrived just after opening on a soggy Saturday morning in August. I was the first one in and had the place to myself. The service was excellent, I was served by a lovely member of staff who was warm, welcoming and friendly. We had a nice chat about the pub, she mentioned about a fire in the cellar and that they were thinking of a refurb, hopefully they don’t as the pub looks perfect as it is. She mentioned there is a loyal local following and there is a good crowd that drink in here. This area of London has been decimated of pubs, so many social and community hubs have been lost. Visiting the @theasylumtavern and seeing it still trading brought a smile to my face, I love pubs like this, a proper backstreet London boozer. The warm hospitality, cheap beer and a community spirit, make this a must visit London Pub. 📅 24th August 2024 More London Pub info @londonpubmap đŸ»

The Asylum Tavern is a welcoming pub in the heart of Peckham, popular with many loyal locals who visit regularly. It offers some of the best value in the area, with prices that are refreshingly affordable compared to the London average. The atmosphere is lively and authentic, reflecting its strong community feel. Do note, that it is known as a Millwall supporters’ pub, which may influence the crowd and vibe on match days.

Really nice atmosphere, cosy with surprisingly tasty selection of thai food, I tried the red curry and it was lovely and fresh! The bathroom was also really nice and clean, which is always valued in a pub!

Thai food has started off again, 3 weeks in and has been going down really well with new and existing customers, reviews for the food from customers has been very good, take away's have been doing really well. We just await the kitchen inspection, Southwark food standards/hygiene, hopefully next week and obtain the food hygiene rating thereafter, then advertising...
