Visited the bakery in hopes of getting a lovely comfort meal during a difficult time The service was slow whilst 3 members of staff where behind the counter 1 was serving , 1 was tending to dishes and the other passively looking on until offering to support with a payment I requested a chest and tomato toastie which lists red onions and tomatoes as an ingredient only to discover that I was served just a cheese sandwich, given the price was £5.80 it’s disappointing to see that such little care was given into ensuring the toastie was balanced or sold as advertised. In addition I asked for a slice of lime and pistachio cake and requested one at the front after being served a slice which I perceived to be smaller than others . The staff insisted that they use a cutter which ensures all slices were the same but were graceful(as I assumed) to oblige my request to be served the one at the front. I didn’t pay close attention to the member who I trusted to fulfil the request before I left and after taking a peak I could instantly tell I was served the same slice I had pointed out I did not want nor prefer. Once getting home I discovered that they had simply repackaged the slice I didn’t want and put a sticker on the box to make it difficult for me to check in the bakery. whilst I understand they may have a practice in place where they assume they have parity over all cake slices - just from the perspective of providing customer satisfaction, I find it puzzling to understand why if I had requested a particular slice I was being treated as being difficult and their reluctance to fulfil my request with honesty and integrity. You’d think the request I made to simply be served a specific slice would have detrimental impact on their wages or the course of their day - it takes nothing from you (speaking directly to staff) to fulfil a request from customers and one would hope that being able to fulfil a request (as unimportant to you anyway if all the slices are the same) wouldn’t be the hill you choose to die on. You thought by putting the sticker into the box it’d make it not possible for me to tell - it’s patronising and again I’m forced to wonder if the slice you give to a customer would impact the wages you collect? It’s so unnecessary and insulting to think you could sneakily “trick” or get away with just lacking basic customer service. Especially since I watched you oblige a couple ahead of me make their requests (and surprise surprise you can probably guess their race vs mine) It’s just unkind, unnecessary, dishonest and disappointing. The staff were rude, service was slow and to top it all off it was dirty inside.

Blackbird bakery: no bakery, average cafĂ©, indifferent staff; average food - infact, average (just about!). It is located under the arches of the Queen's Rd railway bridge. The ambience here is rushed and noisy, the smell of vaporised oil often filling the atmosphere lends an edgy, low rent vibe to the place. So, if you are waiting for a train the Blackbird may be ideal for you: it's a convenient place to grab a quick bite and hurl coffee down your throat. If you want to relax, enjoy good food with a pleasant atmosphere, there are far, far better options available locally. If you do need to stop for a bit, sitting outside is the better option, weather permitting. Also, if you like your eggs well done, as I do, be advised that the chefs here struggle with that concept... you have been warned! 😂 One thing I do like is the way that the Blackbird Cafe has provided a cosmetic lift to the 'bit' of Peckham it's in.

Staff are consistently rude! Food is quite nice. It is not ideal having the bread out in the open beside some of the tables as we've seen multiple people touching the loaves, but not purchasing! The overall cleanliness could be improved. Great convenient location beside the train station though. Update: Popped in here again first thing on a Sunday morning. Waited 45 mins for a fry up (quality was great!). However, despite being the first customers, the place was really quite dirty - tables not wiped down etc. and dried on stains on the glasses and cutlery. Again, the staff were disinterested and very unfriendly. It is a real shame as this place could be great.

Located under the arches ok Peckham’s Queens Road is Blackbird Bakery. This quaint artisan bakery prides itself on traditional customer service, homebaked goods and delicious dine in/ take out menu.

Whether you are a regular - they certainly know their local clients or passing through as we were you can be assured of a warm welcome and personal service as you choose one of the main delicious delights on offer.

After an early start to visit family we opted for a brunch of sour dough toasties: cheese and ham, and tuna and cheese. Both were very generously prepared and seasoned beautifully, and served with excellent latte coffee and spiced chai latte. There are plenty of seats in the spacious interior and a nice outdoor area where you can sit with your dog - bonus for us and our pooch!

Now I would an an extra tip here which the locals probably know but is absolutely essential for visitors: please buy a souvenir of your visit to Blackbird Bakery Peckham in the form of one of the many artisan breads that adorn the display as you decide which tempting creation to sample. We chose the wholemeal sourdough which was safely packed and stored in the car whilst we continued with our day out. We arrived home some 10 hours and 60 miles later at the end of our visit and the sourdough was as fresh and fragrant as the moment we purchased it. Plus it made the most excellent evening snack after a long day sightseeing and visiting. It will therefore come as no surprise that these beautiful breads sell out very quickly so if you see it buy it and take home this lovingly made loaf!

Finally a word about the staff all of whom radiated warmth, friendliness and a desire to please everyone who walked through the door. We had had some recommendations of what to see, what was happening in the local area and highlights to add to our trip. Like I said good old fashioned values, products and service are the beating heart of this thriving bakery.

Please do visit Blackbird Bakery Peckham, the service and food will cheer your spirits and warm your heart!

Thank you to all the team for simply being...

Third day in a row the staff aren’t forthcoming inviting you to the till, someone wrote “staff are on mars” was a bit like that. Not sure if there’s an animosity but seems like staff are uncomfortable in their environment and after the way the manager spoke to me I think I see why

Was asking about an “iced coffee”, if it was an americano? or an iced latte? or a long black or whatever
iced coffee was a bit vague but carried the same price with or without milk.. so I wanted to know. The guy on the till didn’t know bless him so he said do you want me to ask my manager I said yes please.

Encountered quite a patronising and belittling man, who said “what is it you’re wanting”, I repeated what I asked the young guy and he said “it’s coffee, with ice. Or milk and coffee and ice”. Like I had the IQ of a palm tree? Wasn’t necessary, could have found common ground in seeing there are so many options these days, made it a bit of a shared joke or whatever but instead found the opportunity to make me feel stupid.

I will say the chicken and pesto sandwich is delicious. And the staff are sweet but they need some customer service skills, increase their enthusiasm, it’s the third day in a row I’ve been In it’s quite easy to recognise faces there’s no “hey! How are you, you were here yesterday? What did you get? Oh the pesto chicken sandwich how was it? You should try XYZ” - boost your profit by boosting your relationships with customers.

If I’m honest - not keen to go...
