I rarely write reviews, but my experience at Bellyās Taste of Jamaica compelled me to speak out. The level of service I received was utterly unacceptable. There is a fair-skinned woman working there who displays a consistently unpleasant attitude. What is particularly troubling is that she treats male customers with courtesy and attentiveness, yet women are met with dismissiveness and clear annoyance. This behaviour is not only unprofessional but also deeply disrespectful. Such blatant bias has no place in any customer-facing role, and it greatly detracted from what should have been a pleasant visit.
To make matters worse, thereās a young black girl, probably around 18, who walks around like sheās doing everyone a favour just by showing up. Her attitude is appalling, cold, dismissive, and flat-out rude. She can barely make eye contact, her tone is snappy, and it honestly feels like youāre bothering her just by placing an order. If customer service annoys you that much, maybe donāt work in a customer-facing role. It completely ruins the vibe and makes the entire visit feel tense and uncomfortable.
And donāt even get me started on the patties⦠over Ā£3 for something they openly admit is delivered and not even made fresh on-site? Thatās an absolute joke. What exactly am I paying for? Because itās certainly not quality or effort. Itās a reheated snack being sold at luxury prices. The audacity is unbelievable. I couldāve gone to Tesco, bought the exact same thing for a third of the price, and at least been treated with some basic manners. This is daylight robbery, and they should be embarrassed.
This place needs a serious wake-up call. The staff are rude, the atmosphere is completely off, and the prices? Absolutely outrageous. I donāt know whoās managing this shop, but clearly, theyāve dropped the ball. Itās honestly shocking that anyone thinks this level of service is acceptable. I spend my money where Iām treated with basic respect, and this is not it. Get your staff trained, fix the attitude problem, and stop overcharging for reheated food. Until then, Iāll gladly take my business somewhere that knows how to treat paying...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food at this spot is really good, flavorful and satisfying, However, Iāve had a couple of mixed experiences, particularly when it comes to customer service.
On one occasion, the young girl who always seems to be wearing a hood was a very stingy with the jerk sauce. My meal ended up feeling quite dry because of it. Considering the price they charge, I feel they could afford to be more generous with the sauce, especially when itās a key part of the dish. Additionally, when I greeted her with a simple "hello," she didnāt respond. Instead, she just asked what I wanted. It left me feeling a bit overlooked, which is unfortunate.
However, my second visit was a much better experience. There was a different woman working that day who wasnāt Jamaican, but she had amazing customer service. She greeted me with a warm "hello," asked how I was doing, and really made me feel welcomed. Her positive attitude was a huge contrast and made the experience so much more enjoyable.
Overall, the food is fantastic, but I do think they need to focus more on their customer service. Great food should be paired with great service to make the whole...
Read moreSavoury tasting food well cooked, not as salty as other carribean food can be. Could be presented better, nothing to do with taste and texture of perfectly stewed beef. I ordered the Oxtail rice & peas at £14.50. A filling sized portion in a deep plastic dish not a shallow dish. Enjoyable, the gelatine in the texture is spot on and the bones are easily chewy not hard. 4*
I thought the stew chicken was going to be the tougher chicken what is usually served at other restaurants. It was normal roast chicken, too overcooked, shredded off the bones and messy presented at the price for a large. 2*. The Ubereats dish ratings %š are accurate.
Otherwise, I prefer these kinds of restaurants with meat dishes served on the bone, nothing to feel paranoid of. Or specially treated communually and immaturely having experienced 1* ratings in the past before covid.
Would I order from this place again? Occassionally, a couple to a few times a month at most. Not regularly as a favourite. Yum Yum's caribbean by Hackney downs or the takeaway on Homerton highstreet is the...
