AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU’RE BLACK OR BROWN: A DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE AT HOWL AND MOON PUB

I would strongly advise black and brown people to steer clear of Howl and Moon Pub, as the management clearly does not appreciate or welcome people of color. I showed up for a lookalike contest today, something I had been excited for after speaking with staff, the week before. I was personally told by staff how much fun the event would be and that it would be great if I attended.

However, when I arrived today, I was met with nothing but a cold, dismissive look from the manager (LJ) simply because I wasn’t white. It was incredibly uncomfortable and disheartening. Joe blogs who was apparently the perfect "lookalike" candidate, was welcomed with open arms, despite not me not fully fitting the criteria just as well. The blatant disregard and exclusion based on my skin tone were staggering, especially after staff had previously encouraged me to come.

If you’re not white, don’t expect to be treated with respect or kindness here. It’s clear that diversity is not something they embrace, and their management seems to have little to no regard for making everyone feel welcome.

On a positive note, I would like to mention that the guy working in the kitchen was exceptionally friendly and kind. He made an effort to be warm and inviting, and if the rest of the staff could learn from his attitude, the pub would be a far more pleasant place to visit. But until the management changes their attitude, I can’t recommend this pub to anyone who isn’t white.

Save your money and go elsewhere if black or brown.

P.S Quick sidenote a large news outlet (CCB? & Joe uk co?) Were interviewing all other lookalikes, however they too also passed over me for a quick voxpop interview - seem like they we are keen to interview people who skintone fit the...

7 minutes from the infamous Hoxton Square further up Hoxton Road, lies this unpretentious yet inviting pub. When you get up here on Hoxton Road you are outside the cool area. You are not on Shoreditch HighStreet and not so near Old Street and Hoxton Square as to annoying hipsters in fishing trousers and huge glasses walking in. Yet close enough as to walk there and just go somewhere different without having to travel to the end of the world. Yet we are not talking a totally boring local old man pub either. When I was there the pub was full of young people. There is a pub nearby called the Macbeth where there are loads of small concerts. So you get bands in the place quite often also. The bar staff actually also look like they are in a band. All inked up and stuff. The music was more along the rock lines with an old Led Zeppelin poster just above our table. The interior is not the traditional pub thing with carpets and wooden panelled walls but not the bar interior that janks up beer prices by 35% either. What I found great was the line the "Howl at the Moon" walks. Not too trendy and pricey but not boring, too local and stale either. It is a great chilled out place to just drink two or three pints and think what you are going to do next. If that is what you are after then I really...

4 months ago we had a bad experience with your security company - long story short they were imposing their own rules (every day the time limit for you to have your drink outside and smoke was getting shorter and shorter). Decided to give you another shot as this pub is the closest to me, was surprised to see that you could now stay outside past the certain hour if your drink is in a plastic cup so decided to come back a few more times. Today (as every other day) my partner went inside to grab drinks while I waited on the side. The security guard came and told me that I also had to enter through the front and come outside to the smoking area. When I asked why, the answer was insufficient. We stayed on the pavement across the pub to finish our drinks and three young looking girls came from the side and joined others in the smoking area. The security didn’t approach them at all. When my partner went to point the girls out to the security he said ‘they were find’. So not sure if they just pick and choose who to apply ‘rules’ too. Safe to say I won’t be coming back for good but you might want to look into another security...

Popped in here for a pint after a post Christmas Reuben at the famous monty’s deli just across the road. The decor and general ambience is nice and cosy- lots of fake plants everywhere. The thing I really liked is on coming up to the bar and mentioning to my boyfriend that I felt too full for a pint, the guy behind the bar said if you’re too full try this and presented me with a glass with a slightly ominous looking pink liquid. He told me it was a Belgian beer made with so much fruit it would taste like a sour and by George it did. Very cherry flavoured I wouldn’t normally drink something so sweet but was really impressed by his Voldemort like ability to sense exactly what I wanted at that moment. He also offered us to try or have explained any of the other beers and there were a good range. There was a big screen showing the footie, a range of customers from old to younger and the toilets were clean and quirkily designed with decent hand dryers. They also do a great range of cocktails that are reasonably priced (£7 or two for a tenner on Thursdays and Saturdays) all round a great a experience- we will be back

I spent New Year’s Eve at the howl after having spent my birthday there 6 months prior, and once again it did not disappoint! The whole night was a movie from start to finish - the host of the evening in the sparkly trousers was absolutely amazing and kept the atmosphere pumping all night long , and if I may say so looked absolutely breathtaking doing so. The staff were brilliant, always making sure everyone was being seen to at the bar, they were quick and efficient when serving and they were all lovely to interact with, even when I was slightly a little worse for wear, they treated me very well. Overall, a splendid evening and to top it all off you didn’t have to spend a fortune, a very reasonably priced establishment! The best Guinness, the best vibes and the best pub in London!

Lovely local pub serving some quality pale ales on tap including Stone and Wood! What’s more, the joint is using an efficient and environmentally friendly drinks replenishment system as evidenced below đŸ‘đŸŒ Not to be outdone, it also has effectively it’s own private garden adjacent which feels like a secret hideaway to bask in the sunshine. Toilets nearby are a huge plus and even a DJ busting out some chill melodies if you’re lucky on a weekend. All in all, glad to call it my local but would even travel from slightly further afield to check it out :)
