CHIP SOUP
I had the classic BB Burger & fries lunch meal deal. Disappointed no Brisket that day, a 1/3 of the menu gone.
The patty (crunchy edge, smoky, medium, great beefy flavour) and bun (heavy on sesame, perfectly toasted, held its form) were excellent. The bacon/cheese were unevenly distributed. The garlic in the "garlic mayo" was almost indetectable, perhaps a defensive response to feedback from Boxpark's corporate customer base.
The overall burger was too sweet for a UK palate, with demi-brioche + onion jam + mayo. Needs a pickle to balance, unless your tastebuds are dialled up to Creme Egg level.
The chips were fresh but wet, a soggy, oily mess. At what low temperature do BBB keep their fryer? And who picked the expensive looking bags in which they just sit and steam? A one off? Check out the reviews - this is a consistent complaint @ BBB Boxpark. They were also underseasoned (what are the dark bits? and please give me a sachet of salt, rather than mayo and ketchup, which were abundantly handed out by chef but would have turned my chips into a soup)
With such a great burger choice in London, it's an insult to see chips like this. Had luggage so couldn't easily raise at the time with the BBB team on site, but short of a refund it's not clear how they could have helped.
Recommendation: Try the classic BBB if you like sweet things; don't be tempted by a meal deal; BYO vastly superior fries from Patty & Bun / Five Guys nearby. They'll still be crunchy by the time you're sitting to eat your Black...
Read moreSaw this place on million pound menu and our mouths were watering. We made the journey especially to black bear in box park Shoreditch and were left feeling, frankly, underwhelmed. The burgers in the TV show are big, made from toasted brioche buns and looked absolutely amazing. The burgers we tried? Much much smaller, buns a little flabby and definitely not toasted (or at least not toasted for more than a very brief period). No garlic mayo/aoli (at least not that we could taste). Whilst the meat and brisket in our burgers was juicy and quite tasty (brisket was a bit cold), I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed by the experience overall. Also, our chicken nuggets were fairly dry which was probably the most disappointing bit as they do look great. Fries were a little bit soggy and oversalted but were okay. Staff and servers were friendly enough and the sauces were great, but for £15 a person or more (if you get a drink/dessert) I couldn't help but leave feeling the experience was nothing more than average. so, so disappointing - my girlfriend and I really wanted it to be fantastic. Unfortunately though, it just wasn't. We had both types of burgers on offer, the fries and the nuggets (wings weren't available in boxpark, which is a shame, as we were looking forward to having...
Read moreCan. Not. Speak highly enough about Black Bear burger. My partner and I first discovered them a couple of years ago on a date night at box park. We'd had a couple of beers and fancied a burger that tasted half as good as the aroma coming from black bear smelled. We met Stew and Katie who were so lovely and spent a good 10 minutes having a natter while we did a couple of ski shots... may have been Canadian club with maple syrup? Absolutely delicious. Well, we thought it might have been the booze that made it so so tasty but how wrong we were.. we've Been back 4 or 5 times and been served by other staff members and every time we've enjoyed that same consistent burger, as high quality as the last. We always mix it up a bit, a brisket burger or the beef shim nuggets (to die for) but you cannot beat the classic so when lockdown came around and we had to take our date night's at home, I was delighted to see BBB were offering DIY kits and they didn't disappoint. I can guarantee you will not find a better burger in London. Bleecker is a close second but why settle for second? Love love loved it, see you next time when we hope to visit the Brixton...
