Blackbird Bakery — Restaurant in London

I did like this place however, it's a shame that when they opened, they were putting away the pastries without having set up. If it is planned better this will not happen. I had to stand around waiting for them to set up the tables. Also, the pastries were laid out not covered. I pointed this out. The lady there said yes it's a pain isn't it. I know we have a lot of wasps at this time of the year but I don't want them on my food. Over a year later I visited today. Looked nicer, friendly service, very nice sausage roll. However, I still do not understand why its ok for pastries to be left open. I have been doing some research on this and there is just no clear guidance for sellers. New manager today on the floor, well I'm assuming she is, if not she deserves to be. She is the only one who took notice of me and that responded to my good bye greeting. Terrible customer service today. Girls were too busy gossiping with each other, one of them without face mask or gloves who was making everyone's coffee! 3 people in the shop whilst the sign on the door says 2 ppl only. Hand sanitiser outside in a used massive- probably fruit box. No logical idea behind it. Same tongs, knives regularly being used across, like today which means lack of understanding food hygiene, allergens and taking high risk of cross contamination. Yet she refused to serve for not wearing a mask. Despite I told I had a head injury and offered to wait outside to which was suggested "to go to an other cafe down the road". (Great upselling and problem solving skills!) Understand that you have to follow strict rules, we do that in our production kitchen too but there are some exceptions plus your staff should show an example following them correctly which they totally failed today. Service and cleanliness really lets this place down. The staff member that served us looked as though this was the last place he wanted to be- talk about miserable! Not to mention after a relative returned their americano - which was essentially just muddy water and incredibly weak- they were given a rather rude and curt response where they were told they had not ordered the coffee the correct way. Coming from a background working with speciality coffee for a while I know this was incorrect (which is beside the point) and just a poor excuse on the barista's part for making a coffee that shouldn't have been served in the first place.

However the cakes and bread are absolutely to lovely so if you want to get positive experience of this place I would reccomend heading to the branches in East Dulwich or Crystal Palace. The staff are a lot nicer and the tables, floor and workspaces are...
