Came from out of town to see if this place lived up to the hype. Unfortunately it doesn't, or at least it didn't on my visit. Arrived to find a queue of miserable looking delivery riders waiting to collect online orders. It was cold and the staff looked like the needed help, something one of the team there actually said aloud at one point.
I waited a reasonable time, given how busy they were sorting out online delivery orders. I ordered the double cheeseburger, angry fries and a coffee shake, mistakenly thinking the lady that served me would charge me for the combo deal plus the shake (she charged me for the individual items). Never mind I thought, I'm getting an amazing sandwich, who cares about a few quid?
Fries were so over done they were bitter. Despite this they were cold when they were handed to me by the staff (who must have realised they were too burnt to serve).
Burger was supposed to be medium rare, I did think to myself that they were busy and maybe order it medium just in case they rush it and it winds up raw. I should have listened to my hunch. All but the very surface of the burger was completely raw. And because they cook the patties from frozen, it was like eating a meat paste sandwich. I'm not squimish and I can enjoy a rare burger but this was way, way too rare.
Way under done burger, way over done fries. Charged more than I was expecting because staff couldn't be arsed to put my order through as a deal, even mac Donald's staff know to do that!
Good things? Coffee shake was awesome, and their weird little long distance order calling token that flashes when your order is ready (allowing you to go for a wander). It would have been nice if the staff hadn't left me to work out what that thing was though. Did I mention the fantastic shake? It was nearly a fiver on its own.
All in all just shy of twenty quid out of pocket and still hungry. I went to brick lane Baegel Bake around the corner for a salt beef baegel can of coke and a slice of cheesecake (£5.60).
These guys need to set an upper limit on the number of online orders they will accept per hour at any one branch. You can't upset punters that have made the effort to visit a store in order to satisfy an unmanageable number of online orders. I have to say, anyone that orders a delivery burger from anywhere probably has more money than brain cells. Also the staff need better training or better supervision or just some more hands.
After leaving this review, I was contacted by someone from the business who was extremely apologetic and offered to arrange for me to come grab another meal, on them. I nice touch I thought. Good luck to them, but I won't...

Probably the worst burger I've ever had, again. I live in the Shoreditch area and know of some wicked spots for a very tasty burger. Now don't get me wrong, the actual pattie you can tell they take some sort of care sourcing the beef and what not but eveything else is pretty much a train wreck. They use cheap buns you can grab from Tesco, I actually ordered a double with cheese & bacon, and the bottom part of the bun was completely saturated in oil. I mean any burger connoisseur knows you have to start off with a sturdy bun at least! Burger rule number ONE! Another thing that caught me off guard was the saltiness of the burger.( I actually took the bacon out of the burger thinking it was making it salty - i was wrong)
Customer service was a bit confusing, i placed my order just after one gentleman, they then received about 5 orders after mines. I waited about 10/15 mins, and in all honesty I was getting a bit frustrated so i asked how long left. He explained it shouldn't be long now as they combine all the orders and cook them all at once. It takes 8mins to cook and another 5mins to bag. (His words not mine). I said okay mate no problem baring in mind I only get 30mins for a lunch break, so you can only imagine how ticked off I was to watch everyone who placed their order after me happily walk away with their meals. After they were all gone I still had to wait a few mins before I FINALLY received my own. I assume when all orders are cooked together, I wouldn't be the only one left waiting.(unless I made the order last which in this case i didn't, I was pretty much one of the first)
£11 for a salty small burger, I literally ate half and threw the rest away. I would gladly pay £5 for a double quarter pounder from McDonald's and be happy with that. Not only will it be bigger, it will taste better too. I don't know if they work well under pressure that's for sure. I've read a few of the reviews about this burger stand and they all seem genuine compared to my own personal experience. If you honestly think this is the best burger place in North London your name should be John Snow because you know...
Read moreSummary: Best American-style burger in London by a mile. I’ve eaten pretty much everything London has to offer and while I go back to some, I’ve been to Bleecker nearly 100 times. Never disappointed, always satisfied.
There are many burger joints in London, in fact far more than there ever used to be, and some would argue too many. In a city with so much choice, it can be difficult to decide where to go when there are so many people advocating their favourites. The answer is a simple one, if you want a burger that actually tastes like a burger rather than myriad of crazy and unnecessary toppings out there nowadays, then this is the burger for you.
The burger itself is reasonably simple. The classic double Bleecker is a double 4oz patty, each topped with a cheese slice, and a charred slice on onion in between. Sauce comes in the guise of a homemade burger sauce that it richer than what most people are used to, with sharpness from the blitzed gherkins. The bun is equally surprising. Eschewing the now ubiquitous brioche, Bleecker uses a milk-based bun that is light and fluffy, slightly sweet but remains a neutral background for the beef.
The thing that sets Bleecker apart is the quality of the beef. Supplied by one of the best butchers in the country (thebutchery Ltd), the ground beef is a unique blend of cuts from some of the highest quality grass-fed cows. The fat content is pushing way north of 30%, but you don’t eat burgers if you are counting calories. The fat gives the burger an almost buttery, rich taste. You can add bacon for a salty kick, as well as upgrading to a Bleecker Black - the eponymous double burger divided by a slice of Clonakilty beef (yes beef), black pudding. Don't be a wimp - it's less adventurous than you think, the pudding complements the beef more subtly than you think. The effect is overwhelmingly brilliant. I’d also note it won the nationwide Burger Bash competition.
It’s hard to stress the quality without sounding disingenuous, especially as the owner is a friend. However I should clarify that the only reason I became friends with her was because I kept coming back, over and over again, for the burger. It was the burger than won my friendship and I think it’ll...
