I've eaten here before and it was absolutely awful as well as being overpriced (about a £12 for a beef sandwich which contained very little beef, mainly beetroot made to look like beef; and about £8 for a cheese and ham toasty with inexplicable, clashing garnishes including honey). Never ate here again for obvious reasons but pop in for a coffee once in a while.
I was prompted to write a review as I jumped in for a quick coffee at 5pm and decided to sit down. There were no seats in main area so I went into the back area where a sinuous male member of staff made me feel most unwelcome when I asked if the area was still open. He visibly grudgingly said it was, before saying it closes at 5:30pm. I told him I was only having a coffee, so I sat down. I was then asked if I was using my laptop (not out of any desire to be helpful but as a means of hurrying me out as they have a ridiculous policy of 'no laptops' in that area, even when you're the only person there). An older couple then came into the same area and were treated to a sickeningly courteous version of the same man.
I have found it to be overpriced, of poor quality and pretentious to the point of being offensive and wholly unwelcoming (much like its sister eatery, Spoke, which can't decide whether it's a cafe, restaurant or pub, failing to achieve any but charging you service for bringing your coffee over).
The coffee's pretty good in both though if you're willing to overlook the above or...

It is barely a mile from Crouch End, Highgate and Hampstead Heath, so called rich people zone, but it is a bit more like a transport hub, with the metro and numerous bus routes.

Read moreI live just a few steps away from this place and was really looking forward to visit. And so on a lazy Saturday morning I decided to pay a visit. Such disappointment!! I read so many reviews about lovely staff, I can only wonder if they were written by their family members. As I walked in, I was not welcomed. I was not even looked at. Nobody ever came to me to offer me a menu and after waiting for 13 minutes, I grabbed a menu off another table. I kept looking around for staff, in fact I was sitting right next to the counter, so it is impossible that they did not notice me. Yet I had to ask someone to take my order, and it still took them a good 5 minutes to come over.. Order placed, the food arrived quite quickly and was good, but nothing special. Quite expensive for the size of portion, too. I ordered a latte and it was delicious. In fact, the only good thing about this place was the coffee. I was really disappointed and will not return. DREADFUL...
