Cafe Metro — Restaurant in London

I was there a couple of months ago. As soon as I came the man working there asked me why I was wearing a mask. I explained I didn’t want to catch Covid nor pass it to others, to which he replied that “the government lies to us”. I should have left but I just wanted to quickly buy a coffee and a piece of cake. When I was trying to pay my phone needed to recognise my face, so I pushed down my mask briefly, to which the guy said “see you’re not ugly! You don’t need the mask!”. I just ignored him, grabbed the cake and the coffee and left. I was about to eat the cake when I saw it was FULL OF GREEN MOULD. And the coffee tasted like burnt water. I went back, returned the mouldy cake and asked for a refund (he wanted to give me another piece, when they all clearly had been there for who knows how long). He gave me coins, and I even left the coffee there (didn’t get a refund for it but I just wanted to get away as soon as possible). I am so disgusted and I am never going back to this establishment. I was very upset this morning by the behaviour of the staff at this cafe. I ordered an Americano, which was priced at £1.95 on the board, and paid by contactless. When I looked at how much I’d been charged it said £2.50.

When I queried this he tried to give two excuses: firstly that it was because he gave me a double shot (which made no sense and which I hadn’t asked for), and secondly that it is because I paid by card, which made no sense as there was nothing saying that there is an extra charge for paying in that way, and would it really have been £0.55 exactly?

He then refused to talk about it, took the coffee back, gave me the money and demanded that I leave.

So I am shocked into concluding that he was overcharging me. Reading other reviews, it seems that this is common practice at this cafe. Unfortunately they have lost a lifetime of business from me, and I would warn others to be careful to check what you pay if you have the misfortune to go there.

Hussain & Mohammad were absolutely charming!!! I'm here from Los Angeles and I felt really welcomed by them ☺️ Not only were they very friendly (make you feel like family), but they UNDERCHARGED me!!! I should have paid double for the 5.99£ breakfast--it was that good! (They also have a 3.99 option 😱 but I was super hungry)--they even offered me a free cappuccino!!! Also, when faced with a 0.49p charge for credit card, I said I'd go change my US dollars for Pounds and be right back, they said "don't waste your time, we won't charge you the extra fee" GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!
