I've now visited the Shoreditch branch of Burger & Beyond three times, and I can say with absolute certainty that it serves the best burger in London—hands down.
As a self-confessed burger aficionado, I’ve made my way through many of the city’s top burger joints, including Bleecker Burger, Black Bear Burger, Lucky Chip, Lagom, Burger & Lobster, Honest Burgers, Manna, and Meat Liquor. While each of these places has its merits, none come close to the sheer brilliance and consistency of Burger & Beyond (Shoreditch).
We’ve all seen the advertisements for burgers that look nothing like the real thing. But here, the burgers exceed your wildest expectations. The double cheeseburger with bacon is a work of art and the only meal I found worthy enough to celebrate passing my PhD exam. It is everything a cheeseburger should aspire to be—perfectly cooked medium beef, oozing American cheese, perfectly fried bacon, a delicious sauce with onions, and a beautifully soft bun that holds it all together without letting the juices ruin its composure. Each bite felt like a piece of heaven.
My partner opted for the bougie burger with their signature dry-aged beef patty, double American cheese, Steak Sauce 2.0, Marrownaise gravy, and beef-fat onions. The balance of richness and umami is nothing short of sublime.
The side dishes at Burger & Beyond deserve a mention too. The gochujang wings are excellent, and I can't get enough of the tater tots. Even something as simple as a side of soft-crunchy fries with their secret sauces hits the spot.
Service can vary depending on who’s serving you. The last time I went, it was excellent, but my second visit wasn’t quite as good. However, the standard of the food has always been top-notch.
One concern I have as Burger & Beyond expands is whether it can maintain the exceptional quality that sets it apart. Too often, growing restaurant chains compromise on ingredients or preparation methods, leading to an inconsistent experience across different locations. I sincerely hope this doesn’t happen here, as it would be a great loss to London’s food scene.
For now, though, I can confidently say that Burger & Beyond reigns supreme—and I’ll keep coming...
Read moreI'll give you an honest opinion on this place stating the good sides and the bad sides of the place, to give you a better judgment.
Let's start with the good parts. The food looked good and was presented on the plates nicely, can easily get nice pictures, but that can be very misleading. The mozzarella Sticks for the starters were nice and cheesy and also the bone marrow gravy cheesy fries were really nice, but honestly how do you mess up on fries?
Now having said that let's state the bad parts to justify the 2 star rating. The seating was terrible, very uncomfortable if you're sitting on the padded side, which don't make sense as you'd think that part should be more comfy for you. I don't know if it was just that day, but the vibe in the shop was so boring like sitting in a library, could hear the guy next to me chew his food (not even over exaggerating) even when there was music in the background. The staff were ok, but most of the time they were just chatting to each other and just left us to sit waiting around for the bill. NOW THE MAIN PART you've been waiting for the actual burger. Me personally I don't like sogy burgers, it just ruins the buns and this Bougie Burger I ordered was difficult to eat cause it was so messy. I normally like medium burgers, but this one was medium rare. I normally don't got a problem with that, but this was more rare eating a cow raw then to the medium side. It just makes the burger hard to digest, like it just slides slowly down your stomach. Maybe if they changed the way they cook it, it might make a difference to the burgers. I don't like to complain about the pricing of a place, cause if it's nice it's worth it, however this place was not worth the £60 I had to spend on it. For that much price, you're honestly better of going to another burger place around that area like black bear burger or honest burgers.
To sum up the cons heavily outway the pros for this place. If you're an instagramer who likes to take pictures then this is a good place, but if you're more interested in actually eating the burger then I'll say...
Read moreI didn’t want it to come to this but I’ve possibly had the worst burger experience in a very long time. I’ve eaten at Burger & Beyond a couple of times and it’s been a pleasant experience for the most part. Anyway, I ordered a double cheeseburger (£15.50 for the burger) which is quite spenny in relation to the Bleecker’s of this world. Yes, Bleecker will always be the benchmark for the ‘almost’ perfect burger (because no burger is perfect) in the country.
In anticipation of a cosy night in of Netflix and a take away, i was happy to wait 40-45 mins for my order to arrive. Netflix all set up (the brothers sun if you must know), lights dimmed, drink poured in my fave glass, heater on full blast, mouth salivating…. you get the picture. Anyway, what I received resembled a McDonald’s double cheeseburger (I’ve been clean from McDonald’s for over two years now but the memories still haunt me. They sent me a single cheeseburger and not the double I paid a hefty amount for. I’ll add photos so you can see I’m not making this up. The patty lacked any flavour or any aged quality they keep harping on about for that matter. It was clearly Well done even though I asked for Medium. Every bite was dry and painful, making me question how this has happened. I called in but their solution just didn’t cut it… This wasn’t how I expected my night to turn out but here I am writing a bad review on a Friday night, which I rarely do. And don’t get me started on the beef dripping fries…
IMO, Burger & Beyond have fallen off and doubt I’ll be going back. If you truly love your burgers, Bleecker is a walk away albeit not in the most glamorous of spaces, but the tastiest foods usually aren’t speaking from experience. Thank me...
