In a phrase - a burger that restores my faith in humanity: you should eat here.
We arrived at 2200 on a Saturday night, we were promptly invited in by an Italian man promising a maestro performance. He was absolutely correct (although he didn't actually work there he was just a true advocate).
I'll split my review into 3 segments, food service and atmosphere.
Burger Nine is unique and a local business. It shares a unit with another restaurant and has pioneered a novel model of sharing a unit with another vendor, collaborating and working with eachother to propel to new heights.
The food was excellent. We ordered two burgers and fries. The smash and the philly. Both were clearly made of superior quality, derived from local produce and arrived quickly. The buns and sauces were impeccable. Many people say you can't impart a separate flavour to burgers but they tasted worlds apart, one creamy and rich the other sharp and spicy. The fries were umami and rosemary, a comforting accompaniment to the burger and both were in ample supply. Total cost for 2 burgers fries and drinks? 35 quid. In London in 2024 that's true value.
Now onto Service - we were greeted pleasantly and seated promptly. The table was clean, and the waitress asked us how our day / eve was and took our orders with a smile. She actually overheard our conversation and gave us some background to the business model as were initially confused by the sharing of space. She clearly cared and paid attention, which is actually unusual in this day and age and made us feel like we mattered and that we'd made a good decision, this being our first visit.
In terms of atmosphere it is small, but welcoming. I was not bombarded by a parade of delivery drivers which was refreshing to be honest after several recent ill experiences at other places (see previous reviews). The space is clean, utilitarian and compact which suits the concept, there is light music and art which suits the decor.
We spoke at length with the owner who is easy to talk to, and clearly takes pride in his craft. That quiet confidence and assured nature speaks volumes on the plate and he should be very proud of what he has achieved. The business is well integrated into the area and deserves your custom.
In a world where all too often people put in the bare minimum and the bar is on the absolute floor at this point, Burger Nine went above and beyond - we're already planning our next trip back. Its very easy to be cynical of food but their honesty and quality has restored some faith. To be fair I actually feel conflicted recommending it because I don't want it to become too popular and I can't get a seat.
The owner is that deserving - you should go here...

An outstanding double smash burger with pickles, American cheese, and burnt butter, served with rosemary fries. The burger was absolutely delicious – perfectly cooked, incredibly juicy, and bursting with flavour. The fries were spot on too, with just the right hint of rosemary.
The owner clearly has a genuine passion for burgers and couldn’t have been more friendly or engaging. I’m already looking forward to trying the smash with brisket, the chilli burger, and basically everything else on the menu.
Honestly, this is one of – if not the – best burgers I’ve ever had. And believe me, I’ve had a few!
Burger 9 has recently opened in one of my favourite food venues – Tooting Market – which is packed full of first-class independent eateries, including an outstanding Basque tapas bar, a delicious family-run kebab joint, a fantastic French bistro, an insanely good shawarma kiosk and so many more. With new additions like Burger 9, Tooting Market just keeps...
Read moreThis has got to be one of the tastiest burgers I have ever had. The simplicity of the stack but the levels of flavours were so delicious. Munir (the chef) coming out midway through the meal to ask us whether we were enjoying the burger was quite a nice experience, it was good to know the ingredients and how it’s made - pretty cool. If you’re reading this wondering whether to give it a go, do it. You won’t be disappointed. I love a good Five Guys or even the smashed Honest Burger, but they don’t come close to the quality from this place. Plus it costs a fraction of the price of the big dogs!
I had seen this place was advertised recently and initially was a tad cautious over the limited reviews and wondered whether they were insider reviews (you know how it sometimes can be with these things) but I wanted to check it out myself and share my thoughts given it was local to me. The reviews are true and I will...
