I was down in London for a number of weeks working and in the evenings this was the place we ate at 90% of the time, with the only other time eating elsewhere to see if we could find anywhere else but always we came back to The Butchers Hook. The atmosphere of the pub was amazing, super cozy and chilled out and after a long day we’d find ourselves looking forward to a nice meal and wetting the whistle. The staff were certainly a great help to making it such a great place to eat at and be in the evenings, always happy to help with any questions, prompt and courteous service at the bar and quickly making and bringing your meals. Consistently excellent meals and very very reasonable prices for London, plenty to choose from as well and always great portions and of high quality. Very good choice for drinks, plenty of beers and real ales on tap, wines to choose from and countless choices of spirits and liqueurs. Thank you for the many evenings we spent there, it was one of if not the best pub I’ve ever been to.

Stopped here for lunch after a Stamford Bridge stadium store. They had space for 6 of us (+ dog friendly!) which was great as we hadn’t pre booked and lots of other pubs in the area seemed to close for food by 3pm on a Saturday. Staff were friendly and helpful, they even brought over a bowl of water for my friend’s dog and extra gravy at no cost! Went for the steak pie which was really delicious and piping hot, surpassed expectations as it definitely didn’t seem like a frozen meal. Interesting history too around Chelsea and how the club was formed at the pub.

We came to enjoy Easter lunch with family and were disappointed! Maybe our expectations were too high.. being Easter? The roast and veggies were barely warm. Puds were good though: sticky toffee pudding with plenty of custard brownie with icecream but shame the warm drinks machine was not working so we badly missed on a nice cuppa to complement the desserts. We won't come back for food here again but guess this historic pub can be a great place to enjoy drinks before or after a match.

Normally, I don't take the time to write poor reviews for places with mostly good food and a pleasant atmosphere, but I feel compelled to share. Despite the quality of the food, the customer service has been consistently unsatisfactory during both of our visits. The first time we went, we were unsure of the protocol for ordering, as we are not regulars at British pubs (we are foreigners) When we asked the bartender if we should wait for table service or order at the bar, his response, short and snippy, was that we needed to order at the bar. While this wasn’t a major issue, it definitely set a tone. Today, we decided to give the it another chance, but the experience only reinforced our decision not to return. We sat for a bit to decide on our order and then approached the bar. The bartender seemed visibly displeased to be taking our order, his expression and tone of voice displaying clear irritation. My partner ordered a veggie burger and asked for cheese on it, to which the bartender rudely remarked, “it’s not really much of a veggie burger then, is it?” While not inherently rude, the way he said it in such a snarky way felt uncalled for and left us feeling quite unwelcome. When our food arrived, my partner’s burger did not come with the requested cheese, and I did not receive the fries I had ordered, despite having repeated the order multiple times. Overall, while the food is good, the consistently unpleasant service creates an unwelcoming environment that significantly detracts from the experience. It’s a shame, as I see this place has mostly good reviews. Why...

trigger warning - aggressive behaviour

I’ve never been in this place before as I’ve just moved around the corner and I’m still looking for nice place around me. One even just after getting down from the bus I was in need for a toilet and thought to enter and get a small pint with my boyfriend to use the toilet, just to be kind and consume something since we were going to use a facility. I asked if they were still serving and was answered they weren’t, so as I still needed the toilet asked if I could still go. I then walked towards the toilet and heard a woman shouting “were do you think you’re going” I answered the guy behind the counter told me I could still use the toilet. To which she pursued shouting at me and my boyfriend for no apparent reason. We left the pub very fast amongst the shock of the bystanders, as we were scared she was going to get physical, and I’m not a fan of this type of situations. I’d rather hold my pee than being attacked. I’m not sure what I did to summon the fury of this waitress. May be that the toilet had already been cleaned? Was she tired? I will never find out I guess. One thing I know is that this place will never be amongst the list of local place neither me nor none of the people...

Such a bad experience. We ordered 2 sharing trays it took 45mins to come out at which point we had to leave for a delivery at home so got it to go. Once home realised one of the trays wasn’t the one we ordered. Burgers cold and weren’t ‘sliders’ it was just a crusty cold burger cut in half, no sauce with either of the trays which was stated on the menu, no chicken at all even though bartender said it was only chicken wings they were out of. I called up to say I was disappointed to be met with a very defensive person on the phone saying it was only her in, all orders came in at once (we could only see one other couple in the pub eating everyone else only drinks and no cutlery on the table) . She just talked over me when I tried to explain what was wrong. Eventually said we could bring the food back if not happy and get a refund which was nice, but we’d had to wait 45 mins and take it home so wasn’t an option as we were now too far away and it was late. Poor service, sub standard food, ridiculous wait and...
