Butlers Wharf Chop House is ideally located by the River Thames with beautiful views of Tower Bridge while dining. It stems from the popular D&D London chain who are aiming to bring back the great British Chop House. It has three Chop House restaurants in London include Paternoster and Quality Chop House. Head Chef, Matt Bishop, started his career with Michelin starred chef, Gary Rhodes, before working at Pont De La Tour, Maze and in several restaurants abroad.
We were impressed with the selection of cocktails on offer and started our night seated at the bar. Our Friday night tipples of choice were the Clover Club Royale: Tanqueray Gin, Raspberries, Lemon & Sparkling Wine and the Cucumber Royal: Champagne, Hendricks Gin, Rose Liquor, fresh cucumber and lime juice. Well, these cocktails were absolutely fantastic. They were both light and fresh without being too sweet. During dinner we couldn’t help but try another one. We opted for the British Twist: Kamm & Sons, Antica Formula, Aperol, Lemon & Egg White. The cocktail was beautifully presented but probably a little strong for me!
We started our meal with some fresh, warm Sourdough bread (£3.50). This was followed by a special on the menu which we could not resist – Haggis and Pork Sausage Roll with Whisky Gravy (£9). I absolutely love haggis (it is like spicy stuffing) and the sausage roll was packed with delicious filling. Other starters on the menu include Carlingford Oysters, Ham Hock Terrine, Smoked Salmon and Hand Dived Scallops.
We obviously could not dine at a chop house without trying the Aberdeen Angus Cross Beef. The meat is selected from cattle that are reared and grazed in the Cairngorm National Park in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, dry aged on the bone or as whole cuts to ensure flavour, tenderness and succulence. The choices include sirloin and fillet as individual steaks and Chateaubriand, porterhouse and tomahawk as sharing steaks. We opted for the 250g 28 day dry aged Aberdeen angus fillet (£35). Accompanying this we had triple cooked chips (£4.50) and béarnaise sauce (£2.50). While the price is on the high side, the quality of the meat is fantastic. The steak was lean, tender and flavoursome – just how you expect a good fillet.
To top off our fantastic meal we had a Sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream (£7). The pudding was moist and there was a generous amount of sauce, which is a must!
Butlers Wharf Chop House is a gorgeous restaurant in Shad Thames offering beautiful views, fantastic food and lovely staff. Given it comes with a price tag, it may be one to save for a special occasion or keep an eye out for the special set menus offered...
Read moreThis was the worst experience we had in London. This place was recommended by a dear friend so we went there on our first night in London. We called for a reservation at 20:00 that same day. That was fine. Once we got there the lady behind the coat checkin at reception was very rude and seemed like she didn’t want to seat us even though there was clearly space and I made a reservation. Walking passed the kitchen we heard someone shouting that no one should be seated anymore and someone raising their voice in the kitchen. All very much not welcoming and upsetting but it was our first evening so we were not letting it get to us. We were seated and got menus by our assigned waiter. We choose and both our options were not available anymore. This also happened with my friends second choice. Waiter went to kitchen and came back again telling it wasn’t an option. Frustrating but we asked what was still available. …. The steak. So we both got one of the most expensive ones, the sirloin. Once it got there mine already looked off. I tried cutting it but it existed for 60% out of gristle. Unlike collagen, elastin does not break down when the meat is cooked, and this is where we get gristle. It’s very much inedible. I asked the waiter why I got that cut cause it’s inedible and he said all sirloin have that, which obviously is a blatant lie. He suggested an other steak and I got an other one. That one was fine but I obviously had to wait again. My friends steak was also very bad. So bad that she only had bites of it and left 80%. The waiter cleared the table and we asked for the check. They were obviously rushing everyone and even though we walked just as long to get to the restaurant then the time we stayed there, it wasn’t worth it. The check came and it included a tip for the service. It’s very weird that that was included cause that is not usual for London and it’s even weirder that they had the audacity to include that for that poor lack of service. This was the worst restaurant experience I ever had and the worst service I ever had anywhere. I had to spend 60 pounds on water and a couple bites of subpar steak while being in an hostile environment where we obviously did not feel welcome. The whole staff probably had a tough night and it showed. All of them let it out on us cause we were one of the last ones. The only person who was honestly really nice was this one guy who showed us out. Outside the view is amazing but the poor service and quality of food is very...
Read moreI overheard a front of house members 5 to be exact and Ahmet( manager) talking about my party in not such a nice way should we say, as I confronted the members of staff as to why would they say something of such disgusting comments about people they didn't know he denied it even though I was literally standing next to him when he said it. In the end the manager Ahmet and member of staff apologised and admitted to speaking about my party in a negative way. I felt i was being belittled by the manager as if nothing had happened if I'm being honest with the way it was resolved. That aside the food was average but the service from the Bulgarian lady was exceptional the British Indian asian manager ( Ahmet) was belittling I think it was because I have a local accent and felted looked down upon. I would like to add further to my review that this situation did happen and the manager was Asian( British Indian manager Ahmet) , we was a group of 6 sitting the second table from the window to the service area ( walkway) on the right with our backs on non mobile seats backs facing tower bridge on Friday on 21st may at 5pm, Please get your facts correct and address the situation denying this situation ever happened to improve a review only makes it worse I will email with the dates to your email to jog everyone’s memory which I don’t think needs doing anyway. As I feel I made it clear enough that it wasn’t the sort of behaviour that would be tolerated and my reaction wasn’t forgettable. Please let me add further that I have searched yours photos and the manager is called Ahmet that dealt with me so you do have a Asian manager please ask him if he remembers this situation he will remember it clearly, they had not realised I was in the party and had turned up late. They was so busy abusing my party in a cowardly way that they didn’t even realise I was waiting to be seated and standing behind listening to every word. 21st may 5pm is the date, the meal was not enjoyable because I was so upset from the abuse I heard. Sent email to address in comment nothing heard back save yourself some time go gauchos...
