My daughter recommended this place stating they did good food. We thought we would give it a try. Found the mains disappointing as there was very limited choice. Burgers, fish and chips. Steak and ale pie mostly around £16.50 each. I decided to have a starter first but alas this put me off. Ordered the satay and chilli chicken on shredded vegetable salad. Disappointing when it arrived. Small coleslaw type salad which looked like it had seen better days. Tasted better than it looked. This was topped with 2 small slithers of chicken breast. ( about 1/4 of a normal sized breast). As for the satay and chilli, where was it? Couldnt taste either and i am covid free! It ended up in the dog bag. I was expecting a dish similar to that of the star malden rushett, but it just could not match the quality and value for money f this venue. At least the dog liked it. My husband had scotch egg and chips. He liked this. The chips were really good and crispy. For £4.50 they had to be. They would have to greatly improve their menu to make me want to go back. Sorry, you were better 20 years ago when i last visited.

Stopped by to grab lunch with my family of 5. We ordered 2 lamb chops, 2 kids fish and chips and 1 sausage and mash. We had to waiting over 30mins for the food despite it not being very busy. The lamb at £19 per person was exceptionally disappointing, it was small, completely overcooked, bland and lacked taste. Pairs with grilled courgettes, potatoes, peas and some purple vegetables (wasn’t sure what it was, they again were although technically well cooked, offered a poor paring with lamb. The dish was bland, overpriced and unseasoned. Moving to the sausage and mash, it was unremarkable (which is partially expected), however the gravy that came with it was thick and great consistency; but lack any real taste. The 2 fish chips were massive considering they were children’s, chips were executed well, fish again technically well cooked, but again let down by the lack of seasoning to the fish itself. To top it off 12.5% was pretty terrible. Overall a lacklustre experience that failed to match the price significantly. On the positive note the general environment was pleasant.

As a family, we used to love coming here due to the nice food and range of menu. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the staff, service and availability of menu on our recent evening out. After being told the menu was limited and had run out of a numerous of things, we were forgotten by the staff and had to ask multiple times for drinks and water to be delivered. Our side of cauliflower cheese was brought out a long time before our main, and after asking, we were told our food was coming soon - it did not. Asking multiple times to be served our next course, the service was disappointing and a shame as the food is always lovely and well prepared. We did enjoy the roast we ordered along with the dessert (which we were brought extra as they had run out of an entire sticky toffee pudding, which was kind.) I do recommend the food, it is lovely however the service is always a let down and made us feel unimportant as customers.

After reading so many positive reviews my partner and I decided to try this place, sadly we didn't have the best experience.

Good points: Staff were brilliant, completely faultless and incredibly friendly and attentive. Decor inside was really nice and very well kept.

Bad points: It was really hot (yes, we were in the middle of a heatwave but even with windows open there was no through breeze meaning we were sweating buckets in our seats, there were no ceiling fans, or just stand fans to help. Starter arrived quickly but was mediocre at best, we ordered: Ox-spring ham, chorizo, ham hock terrine, piccalilli, Padron peppers, Ox-spring ham croquettes, caper berries, balsamic onions, cornichons & warm olive bread" and the only decent thing on there was the croquettes. After the starter was cleared away it took just under 50 minutes for our main course to arrive. I ordered the fish and chips and while the fish was ok, it had obviously been sat under a heat lamp for a while as everything on the plate was volcanic hot and dry (the tartare sauce was crispy on top from the heat). My partner ordered the rib eye and that was revolting, it was requested medium rare and it had virtually no fat, was really (really) tough and tasted as though it had been frozen and defrosted in a microwave.

I'm really sad it wasn't better food as everything else was ok, and as it's my 'local' I would have gone back on a...

So I love food and I love gastro pubs as most of you know. This is my local recently changed its guise from A pearmain pub to a Young’s pub what a disaster I understand all aspects of this trade and I also Understand the present issue with staff , covid and Brexit But PLEASE WHAT IS HAPPENING AT YHE CANBURY ARMS ??? What an absolute disgrace Potentially this recently rebuilt gastro pub oozes potential and has such an amazing catchment to sustain a real Gastro pub ALAS THIS IS NOT THE CASE ! This is the worst experience and food I’ve had in years COME ON YOUNGS PULL YOUR FINGERS OUT BROAD BEANS AND PEA CROQUETTES SOUND GREAT A WONDERFUL GASTRO FAV …THIS ISNT good -bland , beige and old Scotch egg - read well , executed ok but again flavourless and just a ronseal dish reallly 🤗 Daughters order. Burger — burnt , carbonised rubbish Daughter 2 - fish and chips - typical nothing great I order pork - 😂 cold. Dry and presentation was terrible. Mrs ordered chicken Ballantine , - a small 6 0z chicken breast dry and Yorkshirr pudding were like dried omelettes awful We ended our “dining “ experience here ! No cutlery to eat with Table very high to eat from On the plus side Water was great and candles eventually arrived so we could see the amazing presentation …not ! I will never come again ! Sorry. Burn’s night

We arrived on time for our reservation, but it was really cold in there. We asked to change tables and find a warmer spot. We ordered drinks while we waited for the food. The starters took forever to arrive. We asked for some logs for the fireplace and they told us they would have a look for us. After finishing our starter, we ordered more drinks and asked again for logs to a different waiter and she told us she would have another look to get them. We waited 45 minutes for our mains! When they arrived, we asked once again for logs for the fireplace because it was really cold--this time they told us they were really busy but the waiter (a different one) would see what he could do.

We asked a fourth waiter who came to collect our plates; this guy brought the logs right away! Once it started getting warm... we waited another 45 minutes for deserts! Deserts arrived... The cheeseboard was palm-size 3cm thick chunks of cheese! They didn't even bring cutlery to cut it! Asked for the bill... Asked for the manager but they never showed up (since they were busy in the kitchen as we were told).

Arrived at 19:00 and left 22:45. Considering the fact the we pre booked, pre ordered and pre paid the deposit. Really disappointed. We’ve been there many times before but for sure we are not...
