Visited first time. Looks good from outside and is set in a good location. Nice name of the restaurant and Turkish cuisine has some what of a reputation. Staff did approach us more than once but I took my time studying the menu. One of the staff had very good professional polite service - male. Another male also had good service. A female member of staff had alright service. But a female member of staff on one occasion took far too much time bringing a spoon. It was as if she did not want to bring it. And was not bringing the Kunefe as should have been bought but when she saw me being attentive then she bought it as it should be bought. Was offered a 20% off on our next visit by a male member of staff, who appeared confident and sociable. The restaurant was clean and presentable in terms of hygiene and tidiness and decor. I tried manti for the 1st time - do not know what the hype is all about. Tasted better without the cream on top. I tried the lamb chops with rice and salad (pirzola in Turkish) - I have tried this once before in our hotel in Turkey Istanbul. I liked the salad and rice and how presentable the plate looked. The salad combo was alright. Although the rice do appear little in quantity - it’s not that little when you finish your meal. The quantity of chops offered was not that bad - but I found the chops to be far too hard to cut. In Turkey I encountered the same issue. So as a Non Turk I do not know if this is how they are meant to made as standard or according to the chefs style. I tried the lamb ribs for the first time ever and I was not a fan of them. Far too salty for my liking. And generally I found that the lamb ribs do not have that much meat on them like the chops. The kunefe was decent - have had this maybe first time in the UK, but have had this in Turkey and Saudi Arabia. The presentation and the topping of pistachio with ice cream was decent and appeared appealing to other customers sat near us. Kunefe was also cheap in comparison to the other dishes. Was not that much a fan of the virgin mojito passion fruit. We also decided to pay the discretionary service charge - 3 out of 4 members of staff provided decent service. Out of which one was very good, one was good and one was as standard; one was not good. Ended up staying 2 hours here - at times felt that it took long to get staffs attention when the meal was finished and we wanted desserts - maybe they didn’t want us to leave - but also I did take my time ordering. I think they should provide rice with more of their mains. The steak and chip that is on offer on Wednesdays for 25£ was also appealing as the steak is 600 grams which is mammoth in terms of size and appeared very cheap and popular. Maybe other dishes are better than what we had but we cannot comment without trying them. As far as the steak price is concerned I am yet to find a place with cheaper and what appears to be from The outset a good quality steak. And there are good Turkish providers of steak. And the restaurants website does say that this restaurant has been open for 21 years. There were a lot of employees working. The restaurant was busy. But everyone were sat in one area rather than spread out - would have been better for comfort if we were not sat that close to the...
Read moreMost of our group writes for Vice UK or another food blog and fortunately for Cappadocia, it was a good thing this was an off-duty visit.
I desperately tried to cling onto only giving this place a 2 star review as I hate one stars because one star stands for 'don't do it - truly forgettable experience' especially since the place is packed and so is the takeaway section of it next door, it's clear the place is popular in Kingston; but maybe it's also because people don't know any better.
The servers are moderately friendly, but only at points. Service is efficient at times, but sometimes too thorough. Tables are wiped down between courses and cutlery/crockery replaced.
Unfortunately the service is also part of the problem. We ordered two of the chef special - a Testi. Which is a stew usually cooked in clay pottery. The menu describes it as being flamed table side, you order it for the spectacle. Unfortunately, it was delivered with little enthusiasm and the first one wasn't even on fire. Although the second one was and the table next to ours definitely thought it was interesting.
Unfortunately every part of the stew was nuked to death and flavorless. For 23 pounds it was really a disappointment. The price is not the issue, my usual place is Turquoise Kitchen in Pinner where prices are similar, but they put far more effort into their food.
Our starters were delivered with two baskets of bread, which were barely touched for the starter but we had plans for it for our mains, however at the end of our starters the serving staff took our bread away for no explanatory reason; likely destined for the bin as you can't re-serve it to another guest - what a waste.
Considering we ordered two stews, that was the plan the bread. The sad irony here is if we were to order two portions of bread; we would have been charged for it yet they threw away the bread given for free with our starters.
Notwithstanding, there was a large 16-top table in front of us. One of the ladies had a see-through outfit and was constantly in my peripheral vision and frankly, no one wants to see someones underwear and bum when having their dinner. In most establishments you'd be told to put your jacket back on or thrown out; yet this was seemingly acceptable here in a restaurant full of guests.
We were hoping maybe - just maybe - the tea would save the night. Unfortunately the tea arrived with sachets of Tate and Lyle sugar and no Kitlama sugar. What a shame for a Turkish restaurant!
The website describes Kappadocia as an authentic Turkish restaurant, but there was nothing authentic of what we experienced today and unfortunately at no point where we asked for feedback, but we noticed other tables were.
Unfortunately our group wouldn't return here, even if VICE paid us to come and review it on the books! Worth mentioning the review before mine (by Eli) - is from our same 5-top. So make of this what you will (and some semblance of our lack of bias and differing opinions and tastes, I can verify he definitely enjoyed his mixed grill).

Read moreWe(4 people) went for an early dinner on a rainy day all day. So, I folded my umbrella and held it in my hand when a male employee came up to us and said, 'The floor can get wet and slippery from the rain, so put it outside'. So, when I went to another restaurant before, another employee like you said, put it outside, but someone took it, and the employee and the restaurant didn't give me any compensation and just said sorry. So I folded my umbrella and put it in my bag. I said, 'put it in my bag now' and sat down to be guided. (It's not that what the employee said was wrong, but he didn't say it politely, he felt bad, but I understood what he said, and I said to my people that I had been there once during lunch time and it was fine, so I just went inside. I've seen menu before, but I'm not sure about the food name and description, and I've been to other Turkish restaurants, so I thought it would be similar. Here, all the food is 1/3 of the salad, so I kept thinking that I ordered one salad separately. And I sat down and looked at the menu, but I couldn't decide what to order, so I said that I needed more time for number 2. I wanted to make eye contact with the staff because I was trying to order, but the staff didn't look at us, so we waited for about 10 minutes.
The food was really, really good. We ordered the bread twice because it was so good, and we tried to eat all of that salad. The only downside is that the salad is 1/3 of all the food, but when we ordered the feta cheese salad, I wished the staff had said just one thing, 'There must be too much salad'. And while I was eating, the flies continued to sit on the food and thinking 'what to do', but just I continued to drive the flies out with my hands and ate almost all of them. As I walked to the bathroom after eating, I felt that the floor was too slippery. Not rain water, but too greasy. And I think the bathroom needs a bit more cleaning and maintenance. The experience of the first time I went with a friend was good, so I went again with other people for the second time, but this time I wasn't completely satisfied like...
