I’m Portuguese, and I believe frango assado = life! I’ve been coming to Casa do Frango whenever I want to feel like I’m back home - their chicken used to be legit churrasqueira style! They’ve just changed their menu and tableware in what I can only interpret as an attempt to make the restaurant feel more 'London cool' (and less authentically Portuguese). I want to share a few thoughts as someone who genuinely wants Casa do Frango to succeed: First, they removed the stainless steel trays used to serve the chicken. Travessas de inox are as Portuguese as pastéis de nata or azulejos. There’s something poetic and deeply Portuguese about chargrilled chicken resting in a bed of oil on a stainless steel tray, which disappears with the switch to plain white plates. Replacing them is like removing the toast from under your baked beans. Then, they added bacalhau à Brás to the menu, which initially got me excited (Bar Douro's version is really good!). However, I was disappointed to be served dry, unseasoned cod with a handful of fries tossed on top of a mix of the other ingredients, and a slice of lemon on the side. A slice of lemon. On bacalhau à Brás. An act worthy of making Camões lose his other eye. Lastly, you now have to pay £2 for chilli oil (used to be on every table, free of charge). I know we’re in London and everything needs to be paid for, but seriously? It’s just vegetable oil and chillies. If you pulled this in Portugal, you’d be making headlines on the evening news. That said - the chicken is still tasty, the staff are friendly, and the vibe remains nice and spacious. But guys, c’mon, bring back the character. Bring back the travessas de inox, the free chilli oil, and please, leave the bacalhau...

I hosted my birthday at Casa do Frango Piccadilly, booking out the beautiful Solmar Room for a themed murder mystery evening with 32 guests. From start to finish, the team delivered exceptional service, managing a large group effortlessly and ensuring the entire night ran smoothly. A special thank-you to Sonia, the events manager, who was beyond helpful throughout the process, from planning through to the event itself. She was present on the night (even though she was not meant to be working that evening!), making sure everything went off without a hitch, and both our waiter and waitress were courteous, professional, and attentive throughout.
The food was absolutely incredible. Everyone, from meat-eaters to those with vegetarian and gluten-free needs, thoroughly enjoyed their meals. While the alternative menus are slightly limited, the quality more than made up for it. My guests were impressed with how flavourful and satisfying everything was.
The Solmar Room is an excellent setting for a private event, warm, stylish, and intimate, while still feeling lively and celebratory. It felt like the perfect backdrop for a birthday celebration and worked beautifully with the murder mystery theme. The entire restaurant feels like you are literally stepping into a restaurant somewhere in Portugal.
I honestly couldn’t recommend Casa do Frango Piccadilly more for private events and just for eating in general. The combination of excellent food, warm service, and seamless coordination made the night unforgettable. A huge thank-you again to Sonia and the team - several of my friends have already returned back multiple times for the...
Read moreWe visited for dinner on a Saturday evening. This new location is a surprisingly large venue. We were a group of 3 adults and 2 young kids and between us ordered the prawns, bacalhau, 3 half chickens, 3 chips, green rice, garlic mushrooms and the cauliflower. We tried the chocolate mousse, pastel de nata and some ice cream for dessert. The food was generally very good. The main item - the chicken - was perhaps not as exciting as some of the side dishes though! While decent, it was a bit dry, and also much smaller than expected - not quite a baby chicken but not a regular size either. The accompanying peri peri sauce was excellent though, and we also really enjoyed the green rice and - surprisingly - the cauliflower too. Desserts were also very good, and I liked that the pastel de nata was served warm.
Service was friendly but slow and disorganised at times. It was difficult to get the attention of waiting staff. Some of the drinks orders were extremely slow to arrive but most of the food arrived fairly quickly.
The bill for our group came to £226, of which £110 was spent on drinks. The drinks added up, but food prices seemed quite reasonable considering the quantity we ordered. Overall, a solid meal, but not quite as great as my experience at the London Bridge location last year. As for the main question - is it better than Nandos? In my view, the chicken itself is definitely superior (and much larger!) at Nandos, but Casa do Frango stood out more for the overall menu variety and some of the excellent sides, and their peri peri sauce too. I would happily return to...
