Unfortunately what would have been a lovely evening with friends became a lesson from the staff in how not to have an enjoyable time. My friend an d colleague was lectured on laughing too loud... the service is akin to serving gruel in a workhouse and you feel undeserved of exchanging yout hard felt £5:50 for a pint of mediocre beer. Tha bar-staff are rude the is a. Ever present aroma of urine from the lavatories and the Landlady gives you the impression you are nuisance rather than a paying customer. For an establishment that could capisltalise on its quaint charm, the unwelcoming staff are oblivious to their customers needs. I live in hope we ca get beyond the plastic glass obsession and adherence to the margins of joviality marked by on the pavement outside. After all there are many public and accross the uk dealing with drugs an violence accross the UK...

Ale selection OK overall, nothing too exotic but haveway enjoyed some of the guest Ales. Not had the food to comment on. The barman or publican can come across dour and a bit unfriendly. Not much in the way of banter, even if you have come back a few times. Serves you promptly enough and clears the tables so does his job well enough, just never feel that welcome. Still, quiet relaxing pub, so maybe...
