Cod & co — Restaurant in London

Great fish and chips, place very clean and they also sell fresh fish too! I went there early lunch time a few days ago. I heard good reviews from my colleagues when I was at work, so I decided to try it out.

They would have easily got a 5 star review from me if they were slightly more focused on new customers.

I walked in and ordered my food straight away, as there were no customers in the before me. Food was being made straight away (fish and chips is always a longer wait than chicken and chips) this making my food come to me as early as possible. After a little wait, another two ladies walked in behind and the worker noticed them come in but was speaking to the chef. The lady that walked in last was a regular, so the worker spoke to her addressing her by her name, and told her to take a seat and went out to assist her in sitting down (pulling the table away from the chair). Then she stood there and had a little conversation with her and kept the other lady (that walked in before the one seated) waiting. When she finally came back to the till, she took the order and was confronted by the customer about what just happened. I didn’t really consecrate in what was being said because my food came at that point. She bagged it up and put forks in there and handed me the bag. I got back to work before I opened the box. I realised she gave no sauces with the meals (I ordered two fish and chips spending nearly £20), no lemons (a must for fish) and no tissues. I was very disappointed and I resulted into buying ketchup from the local supermarket. The fish was fresh, but would have been better with a bit of lemon in it. What happened here?

This was my re-action when I got in and opened my Cod&Co box yesterday(3Jun2023)

On the previous visit, I ordered the same: 5 cod bites with chips and requested only white vinegar. As I got into the car, we had to open ALL four windows because the vinegar smell coming from the box was so strong. I wondered why does it smell so overpowering? Was it deliberate? Did the hand slip? What else could it be why this vinegar addition was such overkill?

Nevertheless, I went back yesterday and ordered the same. This time the "yes white vinegar on the chips only please" request was as expected (Could smell it faintly but didn't stink out the car this time)

Arrived home, opened the box and had to double check that this purchase was from Cod&Co, London E5 0LP! I looked at the receipt and it confirmed - it was!

So yesterday was my 2nd disappointing purchase from Cod&Co this year.

Will I go back? Of course because I realise these two incidents may be one-offs, however if there's a 3rd disappointing purchase, well, NO I won't...

I will try not to go on too much about the fact it ain't a proper Chippy if there's no Sausage in batter or savaloys on the menu, but the EastEnd ain't what it used to be, since money moved in 🤷‍♂️ Anywayyyyy I digress.

I came back after walking past and noticing the amount of people waiting to be served. Really nice, clean and fresh looking premises too. The service, unfortunately, was questionable 🤔 The dude was helpful and cheery!🎯 The chick that served me, not so much!👎🏽

The Food, especially the fish, was very nice.😋 The fish [cod] was very fresh and the batter crispy AND tasty! 💯 I got a regular which came with enough chips [just] and a decent enough sized fish for the price! Not sure of the price..think it might of been £9 as the girl that served me only threw [literally] a pound back at me, after I gave her a tenner 🤷‍♂️

Highly recommend the food here, and even though they don't have everything a chippy should have, they still have a good selection.

I'll stick to ordering from JustEat going...
