London Pub MapLondon Pub Map
🚇 Sloane Square 🍺 £7.20 Camden Hells The Coopers Arms is located in a quiet residential street half-way between the King's Road and Chelsea Embankment in SW3. The nearest Tube is Sloane Square, it’s a ten minute walk to get here. This pub was established in 1831 and rebuilt in its present form in 1874. The pub sits on a corner of Flood Street, this is the street where Maggie Thatcher lived when she was prime minister. This is a good size Victorian one bar pub that is set out in an 'L' shape. The servery is centrally located and is clad in pale wood with a solid wood counter. The decor is contemporary mixing stylish wallpaper, exposed brickwork, comfy traditional seating and some nice touches like the Gramophone light fittings and d a huge moose head on the wall. At the back of the pub is a small courtyard beer garden. This Young’s pub has a decent beer selection that offers familiar favourites, craft options and two cask ales. I decided on a Camden Hells, my pint hit the spot, price point was on the high side. There is a classic British food menu available here, Fish & Chips costs £18.50. I arrived at 4pm on a Friday for an after work pint. The pub was fairly busy with locals of all ages, some were dining, a group of ladies were putting the world to rights over a glass or two of wine. The backdrop was a downtempo chilled soundtrack which set a nice tone. When I visit pubs in the posher parts of town, I often worry that I am going to be confronted by rows of tables filled with cutlery, but not here. This pub has local pub vibes and offers drinkers a relaxed and convivial pub experience. If you are ever having a nose around the King’s Road, be sure to visit The @coopersarmssw3 . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 01.03.24

On the street this an attractive building and the image of a Cooper at work acknowledges a fading trade but one still important to the pub sector. It's a Youngs pub, so the usual mainstream meals and beers are on offer. The pub's light and comfy and the ubiquitous Youngs blue paint scheme feels more muted here. The bar's still a natural wood colour and the golden lighting creates a more relaxed vibe. There's also a partially covered outdoor area which has an instagram-worthy flower wall. Possibly the most comfortable chairs are the two leather wingbacks next to the toilets. A slightly unusual choice of position admittedly, but credit to the manager for using all the space they have. The standard picture of the Queen Mother pulling a pint is in this area too. An attempt at tilework, perhaps a nod to pub decor of yesteryear sits above the bar, as does a mounted deer head and some foliage. According to Camra, the original Coopers Arms, was demolished in 1874 and the current pub was built 40 feet south of its predecessor's position to allow for the extension of Redsdale Street into Queen Street, as Flood Street was then known.

Just dined here earlier today, primarily for the Sunday roast. Unfortunately, whilst it may look the part of a high end gastropub, it doesn’t even achieve the honour of “London’s premiere high end gastropub tribute band”, disappointing us on literally every level... Welcome to amateur hour!

Two of the roasts we ordered arrived genuinely bone dry, looking and tasting like they’d spent the better part of the past two hours marinating under a food lamp. The beef especially arrived grey and borderline inedible- school lunch flashbacks! This was exacerbated by the fact that my order arrived with none of the condiments that it should’ve (according to the menu descriptions that is)- no gravy, no horseradish, no bread sauce. Further, it took over 30 minutes and 3 different inattentive and/ or overwhelmed staff members (even though it wasn’t busy by any stretch of the imagination) for the condiments to arrive. The veg was ridiculously sub par too- super stodgy and lukewarm- more school lunch flashbacks!!! Additionally, the Yorkshire puddings were cold, not even lukewarm COLD! I can’t work out logistically when the chefs would have to make Yorkshires for them to be ice cold by lunchtime, but they sure as heck weren’t fresh. Lastly... the staff. One of the waiters, the one with lightish brown hair, was adequate (when it comes to this restaurant, describing anything as adequate is a true compliment). The other staff ranged from panicky bumbling incompetence (no excuse for this when it’s not even busy) to nihilistic ambivalence to active rudeness. Whilst clearly our party was not happy with the food or service, not a single staff member even asked us if everything was okay or if we were enjoying our meal. The manager was also rubbish, not even able to muster up an apology or a complimentary coffee after complaining about the dreck served in his establishment, instead trying to blame us?? AVOID THIS JOINT LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!

P.s. based on the reviews below, I’m very much looking forward to the snarky and dismissive response from...

A truly wonderful Tuesday night experience!

Typical Tuesday night, the missus was kicking off (as per usual) so I decided to slip out for a cheeky pint and some food while she cooled off. I just so happened to stumble upon “The Cooper’s Arms”, right down the street from the Kings Road Waitrose.

I usually have a lot of anxiety when going out because, as an incredibly handsome man, I’m far too used to the staff trying to flirt with me but luckily at The Coopers Arms the staff were incredibly professional and kept things respectful throughout my whole experience.

Much to my surprise but also to my delight, there was a trivia quiz taking place that night (apparently it’s a staple that they do every Tuesday night), I decided to enter. What the host lacked in looks, he more than made up for in charisma and personality! I didn’t win any prizes (this time) but still had a great time!

While looking over my answers, I enjoyed an ice cold and precisely poured pint of Guinness from one of the lovely and enthusiastic bartenders (haven’t had a Guinness this good since visiting family in Northern Ireland earlier on this year).

While perusing the menu, I expected the usual suspects in the pub grub line up, which they did have but what really stood out to me was the selection of dishes one would expect in a fine dining establishment. This time I decided to go for the Chicken Schnitzel. Admittedly I was wary of the £17 price point but all my fears flew out the window when presented with a piece of chicken the size of my head as well as fries and peas. The chicken was already seasoned to perfection but also came with a chili honey glaze that was so good I took it home with me to eat off my wife later that night.

Overall I had a wonderful experience at The Coopers and I can’t wait to return again. My highest regards to the Manager and supervisor as well, they both knew the menu like the back of their hands and were eager to answer any...
