Waterstones — Local services in London

First time visiting this particular branch ( I naturally had high expectations due to the service and selection in the white city branch) and I was extremely satisfied with both the selection of books and service from the staff. I went in unsure of what I wanted to purchase and the lovely member of staff approached me and recommended several books which she thought I would like. I ended up going for two suggested and having started one already I'm really pleased with her recommendation. Super friendly staff and a real massive store with a downstairs too. Desperately trying to fill itself with anything other than books. New layout has removed even more from the top floor and replaced it with general tat and gifts. History and fiction selections are goodish, but non fiction, new releases and popular science are about as politically neutral as a verified Twitter account with pronouns. They don't stock any psychology (DK book of psychology doesn't count) but have 3/4 of a wall on books on why we all need to be feminists with tables and tables of books screaming about Trump. Waterstones is a proper bookshop. Staff are always willing to go the extra mile to find something you cannot, to make (and welcome!) recommendation. The range is wide and deep. Long may they keep Amazon at bay! This branch on the King's road is great as it is big, but not too big and the team are super helpful.
