I used to be a regular visitor to this restaurant, however around 5 years ago I stopped eating here for 3 years after a few negative experiences with the food and observing poor management towards the waiting staff. I'm pleased to say that they now are of a higher standard and the food and ambience is back where I remember it used to be. We have visited 4 times in 2021/ 2022 and each time we have had good food, attentive service and the staff seem happier. I would recommend you book in advance for 90-120 minutes to enjoy a 3 course meal at any time of the week. Sunday roast dinners are well done, no matter what time you arrive on the day and the drinks menu is extensive. The staff will recommend drinks to go with your meals should you require and they have always made great recommendations for us. The price range is typical for the area, I believe you do get what you pay for in regards to higher quality alcohol, meats, cheeses, nice dressings and accompaniments to meals. You would look at around £15-£18 for a Sunday roast dinner or main meal, the steak in the pictures was one of their specials on the day and cost £65 (T-Bone). The cocktails will be around £9-£11 and dessert is around £7. If it is your first time and you want to try what they are best at, I would recommend that you go for a steak. The chateaubriand is a good option, however equally so are some of the cheaper cuts (they can also recommend the cut around how well cooked you enjoy your steak). The beef or 'bit of everything' mix is a good option for the Sunday roast dinner. Desserts are worth leaving a bit of room for, however they do fresh mint tea , dessert cocktails / wines and nice coffees.

Popped in for nibbles and drinks, they have a selection of cocktails that are two for one and my favourite the 'S*x Worker Martini' (😉) is on the list! The P⭐ Martinis are very good here. We also had a couple of Tutti Frutti cocktails and they were delicious. 🍸🍹 Our server Kerry provided outstanding customer service without being over bearing. The Cow Cigar starters are actually lamb, not beef as you might expect and they are very tasty, the ground lamb is flavourful and well-spiced, the thin golden pastry is crispy just the right thickness. A dipping sauce like sweet chilli would be even better with the cow cigars. Angry Chix are crispy boneless chicken fillets topped with hot sauce, creamy mayo and spring onions. Angry Chix sauce has a decent heat level🌶 , even for me and I have quite a tolerance to hot pepper. The fries are a triumph, hot and fresh, the correct amount of salt and extremely moreish. 🍟😋 Although we didn't have a main course, we treated ourselves to dessert because... we can. Adulting is hard, treat yourself sometimes! The chocolate fondant was sublime, not too sweet with a excellent crumb and the perfect oozy centre. The sticky toffee pudding had a lovely homemade vibe about it but it was just a little too 'plump' so the middle was quite dry, an extra scoop of ice cream sorted that out and it was only 50p, what a bargain (in a restaurant). 🍫🍦 I'd definitely return to try their main courses or Sunday Roast.

We decided to have a good steak and this restaurant attracted attention with good reviews. They had a really good offer on their web site - 50% off from the expensive big cuts. To our surprise we were the Only clients on Friday night. In the menu the offer was already different - 50% off from the second steak. We insisted that we should have the original offer. It was accepted. The waiter was a very friendly person but had zero knowledge. He was not able to tell us was it grass or corn fed beef and where it came from. In many steak houses the expensive cuts are shown to the clients. We just received a menu with available cuts and weight. We decided to go for 1 kilo bone in prime rib. We ordered medium and it was grilled as requested. It was served sliced. Not bad but nothing special - home cooking level. The wine list is poor - cheap and not interesting wines at triple price from retail price. All food was OK. The interesting part was a bill - The 12.5% service charge was calculated wrongly with extra 6 pounds. This is the fist time in my life I see that computer is cheating. We spent their about 2 hours and when we left at 8PM the restaurant was still empty. I do not know how they survive.

The food here is good so compliments to the chef. However the service on my last visit was terrible! I always considered Cow & Pig as more sophisticated place to go out and previous experience was good. However this time from the moment we walked in there was no welcoming or friendly atmosphere. We then waited for ages to get served and also the person who served us just stood there with pen and paper. How about a little hello ladies, what can I get you today? When we finished our food and asked for the bill we noticed that we were not given the set menu price. Lunch set menu clearly stated two course for £12.95. When we asked the waiter why were we charged full price he told us that we ordered from A la carte menu. We asked him to bring the menu to us and when you open the menu it states lunch menu, 2 courses for £12.95 Tuesday to Saturday from 12 until 3pm. We came on a Friday at 1:30pm. So I showed him clearly what the menu says and he said well we are not doing this today, when I asked why he couldn't give an answer. When we asked to see a manager he told us that he was a manager! Even if let's see we ordered from the a la carte menu, if you are doing lunch deal you should present both menus to your customers! You should also be able to explain why on that particular day you decided not to do the set menu and why did you present your customer with the set menu for which you claimed was a la carte menu! I mean you can't make this up! It's a real shame as I really liked this restaurant but it seems that they employed very young inexperienced staff which will cost them their business in a long run. You must have someone more senior and more experience there to oversee the restaurant and someone who had an exceptional customer...

Disappointing food, service and overpriced Sunday Roast. We booked Sunday lunch for a family meal with my parents but due to rail strikes they were unable to visit. However my husband and I decided we'd go along and eat before returning with them in the visit next month. Our table was at 3pm but when we arrived at 2pm and asked if we could dine earlier, we were accommodated. Sadly the whole experience was very disappointing. We ordered Long Island Iced Teas (2-4-1) and 2 roasts- 1 beef and one "all in" (beef, pork and lamb) and a side of cauliflower cheese. My husband doesn't particularly like lamb and asked if it was possible to swap the lamb out for chicken. He was told "no, we don't do that" which is fine but an explanation of why or maybe an offer of extra pork or beef instead would have been a more customer service focused response. Our food arrived and on first impression looked impressive with a huge homemade Yorkshire on top. We were not offered any condiments. Waiter returned almost immediately and asked if everything okay- at this point we though it was. On closer inspection my plate was swimming in gravy and had saturated everything on my plate. I lifted the Yorkshire and although the meat underneath was plentiful it was thinly sliced, fatty and dull of sinew- mostly inedible. When the waiter came to clear our plates and asked if everything was alright I politely explained that I was disappointed with the dish, particularly the meat. He responded "If you'd have told me I'd have got you some more" which really wasn't the point. We asked for our bill- over £66- for essentially 1 drink, 2 roasts and 1 side with a hefty service charge added. My parents definitely had a lucky escape- we will not...
