I had been a fan of this little place and a rather regular visitor as a result; its appeal was in the fact that it proffered easy wheelchair-access, undeniably yummy treats and a cozy atmosphere. One of the members of staff (a manager I presumed), a gentleman with glasses, was always friendly and kind with his gestures, which added to the warm and relaxing mood.
However, over the last couple of visits, I have had a different server - a tall, blonde gentleman (another manager perhaps)? His manner and style of service, have detracted from my experience, and have led to my regrettable review here.
Upon entering the shop (and despite it being very quiet), the gentleman bellows: ‘Find a seat, use the QR code to order on our app’. This immediately put me ill at ease. What about customers who would prefer not to spend time ordering on a mobile app? Or those who can’t use it? While I completely appreciate having the QR and the app as an alternative , it should not be forced upon people as the ONLY option , as soon as they come through the door. It’s the second time it has happened - on the first visit, I stated that I’d like to order and pay at the till for the sake of personal ease and swiftness. The woman on that occasion, sighed audibly and begrudgingly took my order, as if to do so, was the ultimate inconvenience. Waiting staff showing that they would prefer not to spend time taking customer orders, surely defeats one of the main purposes of having/ employing waiting staff in the first instance?
On my latest visit, I did use the QR code to order, as requested. However, an English Breakfast tea was unavailable to order, so my mother went ahead to the till to order and pay for this in person on my behalf. As she attempted to do so, the aforementioned blonde gentleman, was using a mobile phone behind the counter to deal with other matters - which he did not look up from once - in order to confirm receipt of the requested drink. So, again, customer service with no actual customer service, feels as rude as it does, entirely pointless.
The gentleman continued to take phone calls as he cleared tables around us; his voice carries quite far so it was also a little unsettling and intrusive. As a point of constructive feedback, perhaps phone calls could and should be taken out back, and out of earshot of customers?
When our crepes arrived, the gentleman slapped them down without looking at us and simply said, ‘Alright babe’. I’m all for friendly informality, but not casual over familiarity, particularly when the overall service is poor.
I’m also a huge fan of embracing technological advancement, but not at the expense of customer service, particularly if customers are paying for said service.
I was reluctant to post a review, as I like this place and have genuinely felt welcomed there. However, the service there has been below par on consecutive occasions now, which is disappointing, and spoils the tastiness...
Read moreI don't normally leave reviews but I had such a wonderful experience at Crêpeaffaire Bromley today. I have a tremendous sweet tooth and have always wanted to visit but have terrible social anxiety and don't like to eat alone. I heard about their £2 Tuesdays and today was the last day of the offer and I had no one to go with. A friend challenged me to go alone and I'm so glad I did! From the moment I stepped through that door Lewis greeted me warmly with a smile, took my order quickly and told me to have a seat anywhere I wanted. It's a wonderful cosy little place and I found a small table by the window which was not so exposed and where I could people watch. I ordered two crepes - the banana split and the oreo cookie crepe. The service was incredibly quick and both crepes were presented beautifully and were absolutely delicious! Lewis came over to check on me throughout and made sure everything was ok. It was really a wonderfully pleasant and relaxing experience and he put me at ease constantly without even knowing until I left and I thanked him. I highly recommend visiting if you want delicious food in a cosy and relaxing environment served by incredibly friendly and attentive staff. Thank you so much Lewis...
Read moreI’m being generous with a one star rating. If I could it would be zero!
I rarely write reviews, but my recent visit to Crepeaffaire was appalling enough to warrant one. During my visit, I was mistakenly served someone else’s half-drunk milkshake. Yes, you read that right. A visibly used milkshake — straw in, partially consumed. Hygiene? Nonexistent. I assumed the milkshake size was just down to small servings, expensive but small.
Expecting at least a sincere apology, their was no acknowledgment of his mistake. Instead the staff member casually responded, "You can keep it as a freebie." As if I was meant to be grateful for being handed someone else's leftovers? It was a baffling mix of negligence and arrogance.
Mistakes happen — I get that. But when the mistake involves serving a used drink (in any food establishment, let alone one supposedly focused on quality and cleanliness), the response has to be immediate, apologetic, and professional. This wasn’t just a blunder; it was a basic failure in food safety and customer care. I won’t be returning, and I’d strongly suggest others think twice. A crepe isn’t worth the risk of whatever comes with someone...
