Unwelcoming and Rude Service Ruined Our Evening

After a long day shopping in Bromley, my friend and I were looking forward to some fish and chips and decided to check out The Partridge Pub. This was actually my first time inside, despite having lived in Bromley my whole life, and I was excited to finally try it. We even went as far as asking one of the younger staff members for her honest opinion about their fish and chips. She hadn’t tried it herself but told us it had good reviews, which reassured us that we’d made a solid choice.

Once seated, my friend and I began checking out the menu, debating on whether to add a starter or maybe even a dessert. Just as we were getting comfortable, an older man from the staff abruptly approached us with zero greeting or warmth and, without any pleasantries, bluntly asked, “Do you two have ID?” The lack of any kind of courtesy caught us off guard right away. There was no “Hello” or “How are you”—just a cold question about ID.

I politely explained that I didn’t have my physical ID with me, but I could show him a photo of it, since I am 25. My friend, who is 28, had her passport, which was only expired by a week. Instead of offering any understanding, he immediately shut us down, saying he wouldn’t accept it. His tone was dismissive and even slightly aggressive, which made the situation feel needlessly confrontational.

We were taken aback because we hadn’t even walked up to the bar yet and had no plans to order any alcohol—we were there simply to enjoy a meal. This detail seemed to make no difference to him, as he seemed unwilling to listen or show any understanding whatsoever. After a few awkward exchanges, it was clear he wasn’t interested in accommodating us, so we decided to leave.

This whole encounter left a really sour taste, and we ended up feeling as though we weren’t welcome. It’s sad, especially when so many pubs are built on warm hospitality and creating a welcoming environment for customers, whether they’re regulars or new faces. The Partridge Pub unfortunately fell short in every way when it came to customer service.

It’s unfortunate that such a promising evening ended in such a disappointing way. If this is the level of service they offer to potential new customers, I can’t imagine recommending The Partridge to anyone looking for a friendly and enjoyable experience. We ended up going elsewhere and having a lovely meal, but it’s a shame that we had to go through this negative...

Really sad to say that the pub I have been coming to for many years amongst varying groups and recommending for its decent beer and excellent staff has been let down by one barman. The pony tailed unfriendly one who used to work at the Wetherspoons at Bromley South. I was enjoying a quiet Friday night with a few friends (all in our 60s) when for absolutely no obvious reason, the pre mentioned barman decided he didn’t want to serve our group anymore. One of our group assumed the pub had closed and asked said barman if that was the case to which he said it was closed . We all accepted this until he continued to serve other customers. (The pub was practically empty inside with a few tables occupied in the outside back area) When questioned about this he just went on about his right to not serve due to licensing laws etc. Which I totally agree with in the correct circumstances. Perhaps this barman took a personal disliking to one of our group. I can think of no other reason for his bombastic attitude which has lead me to decide I will sadly not feel welcome when he is there. I have to add that the normal pub management were not present during this time. I would suggest however the management and The Partridge would benefit from reconsidering who they left in charge of their pub in...

If you’re looking for a place where the pints are as refreshing as the banter, look no further than The Partridge in Bromley! I popped in for a quick pint and ended up staying for hours – the atmosphere was just that infectious. The decor is a delightful mix of quirky and cozy, making you feel right at home (if your home had an endless supply of top-notch beer, that is).

The staff? Absolute legends. They know their stuff and have a knack for making you feel like a regular, even if it’s your first visit. I went for a pint of their finest brew, and let me tell you, it was like a hug in a glass – smooth, flavorful, and just the right amount of froth.

And let’s not forget the crowd. It’s a lively bunch, full of characters who could easily star in their own sitcom. By the end of the night, I felt like I had made a dozen new friends and laughed more than I had in ages.

In short, The Partridge is the place to be if you want great beer, great company, and a guaranteed good time. Five stars...

This is a beautiful traditional pub in the heart of Bromley town. The inside seems like it's had a re model Vs some of its main pictures on their Google maps. The service was attentive and they were always willing to check when we were ready as me and my friend were too busy catching up. The food was ok, little basic pub lunch so can't really go wrong with that. They are a dog friendly pub which is amazing and one of the main reasons we chose this pub on our visit to Bromley. They have a lot of the original features of the pub. And I love what's hanging up around the walls old photos and history of the local area/pub

Came for a Sunday roast, but was refused alcohol because I didn’t have a physical ID with me. Last I checked, legal age to drink in UK is 18 and yes, I maybe asian but I just find it super ridiculous they don’t think I am (clearly) over 18, and very very inflexible that they don’t accept pictures of passport even. Understood there is a regulation when it comes to that but also couldn’t help but think the treatment I received was purely discriminatory, it certainly didn’t make me feel good. Good thing is they are pet-friendly but thats just that. Will not recommend.
