First visit today and overall the food was tasty and fresh. I ordered the kids cheesy pasta for my daughter which was not bad but not much cheese there just a little grated on top of plain pasta. My son had the kids cod and chips which was very tasty alongside the freshly made house tartar sauce with some mushy peas and chips. We ordered two 8oz steaks but mine was not made according to my choice even though I had noted that we both wanted the same one. It still came out wrong and was bloody therefore I had to complain. However even though I was offered for it to be re made it's never nice to have to sit and wait for your food to be re done from scratch when you're out meant to be having a nice family meal as a treat. I had to wait around 15mins by this time I had already lost my appetite despite a nice friendly gentleman by the name of Tristan was very polite and professional and dealt with the situation as best as he could and apologised as well as offered me a drink on the house due to the inconvenience and a refund for my meal shortly afterwards. Also after my meal came out the manager did come to our table to also apologise which I appreciate I just hope that they can pay more attention to detail with notes/requests. I don't think dogs (apart from guide dogs) should be allowed inside the pub since many people have allergies and it's not ideal to be in an indoor closed environment where you could have a potential reaction. Every few minutes the big dog next to our table kept barking and making my little ones jump during their lunch. They are both under 5. I would consider re visiting if I pass in the near by future.

My third time staying here, but sadly, my first non-5* (which does disappoint me to write). The front-end staff were their usual attentive selves and always good to be welcomed back. Unfortunately, on this trip, that is where it stalled. I was staying in the Village Suite, their biggest, but I still prefer the Fox Suite; it is more homely and warm. There was no robes or slippers (first world problem I know, but it does advertise that it comes with them) which took two attempts to get them, there was two bags of rubbish and a full ashtray left outside on the balcony (after three reminders, the man on reception ended up doing it himself - non idea where the cleaners were), and after two days, there was still no body wash or soap - lucky I had my own. The hotel wasn't full; there were apparently a lot of staff on, so not sure why they just downed tools halfway through, but on this occasion fell short of expectations.

I felt absolutely awful after visiting this pub. Yes, the place looks nice and spacious inside, but the service was shocking. There were 4–5 people behind the bar and not a single one seemed interested in serving drinks — they were chatting, polishing glasses, pretending to be busy, or simply disappearing on breaks. It looked like they didn’t want the bar to make any money. The food was even worse. Fish & chips fried in oil that looked completely black, dishes served cold, with no taste at all. Honestly, the quality was no better than McDonald’s. We spent over £100 here and got nothing but disappointment. This place is a disgrace to hospitality, and I strongly recommend avoiding it.

A Classic Wimbledon Village Pub with a Few Drawbacks

Having grown up in and around Wimbledon, the Village holds a special place in my heart. The Dog & Fox sits right in the center, next to the Stables, making it a prime spot to soak in the charm of the area. Even in an urban(ish) setting, it’s always a treat to see horses and riders heading out onto the Common.

The pub is a lively hub on Friday and Saturday nights and packed for Sunday lunch. We visited on a quiet Monday afternoon during half-term, bringing our dogs along. With plenty of seating available, we opted for a cozy indoor table—understandably, given the near-zero temperatures outside. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with friendly staff, a good selection of board games, and the comforting crackle of log fires.

The menu is fantastic if you have no dietary restrictions. However, for those with food intolerances, it could be a bit limiting. Many dishes feature dairy-based sauces or onion-heavy ingredients. It would be great to see more simple, grilled options that avoid common allergens like onions, garlic, or chili (though not every dish contained these).

As with most restaurants post-pandemic, prices have risen—expect to pay close to £20 for a burger. While it’s a great burger, a few years ago, even £15 would have seemed steep.

That said, the staff were accommodating and happy to suggest alternatives for any dietary concerns, which made for a positive experience overall.

Would I return? Absolutely—but with a few menu tweaks, it could be...

Both Christmas Day and valentines ruined! We initially intended to visit on Christmas Day but unfortunately I caught COVID. We were very grateful that the dog and fox kindly agreed to pack away our meals for us to collect on Christmas Day. However we ended up waiting till 7pm to collect our meals for them then to end up completely inedible. We completely understood this situation and whilst frustrated understood the demands of the pandemic so we’re pleased when they offered us a voucher for the cost of our Christmas meal to come back and try again! So we selected a meal on Valentine’s Day. We attended with high hopes and it got off to a reasonable start. Initially we got served the wrong bottle of wine and this was very quickly corrected with no hassle. They didn’t offer us the chance to taste the wine. Our starters were good. We then noted things started to go down hill with our mains when our peppercorn sauce tasted horrendous and very chemical. After ordering our deserts, they took over half an hour to arrive and we tried to attract the attention of the waiting staff, who sadly were eating food visibly by the kitchen service area. We ended up going up to the bar to order our own drinks. Eventually after asking we got our desert 50 mins after ordering time. Safe to say we’ve given the restaurant a second chance and will not be returning. It has a very nice interior, atmosphere and menu it’s just a shame that the service and quality of food...
