Read moreWe made a reservation at The Ivy Wimbledon for our anniversary meal on New Year’s Day, booking online and indicating the occasion, though we didn’t expect any special treatment. Unfortunately, the weather was cold, windy, and rainy on that day, and upon arrival, we were seated at the table right by the entrance. I asked to be moved because I was feeling very cold. The young lady who attended to us promised to relocate us when another table became available. However, after a while, I noticed several tables freeing up, yet we remained in our original spot. When I inquired again, I was told there were no available tables for us to move to.
We ordered starters, and I chose the truffle arancini, which didn’t suit my palate, although I imagine those who enjoy truffle might appreciate it. I wanted to order additional drinks, but the waitstaff seemed preoccupied, and I ended up going to the bar myself to place an order for cocktails. Throughout our visit, the waiters appeared quite miserable, with not a single smile exchanged. I overheard them complaining about other customers and issues from the previous day, which struck me as unprofessional. Most of the staff, contributed to a gloomy atmosphere that made me reluctant to continue dining there.
As the meal progressed, I found myself putting on my coat due to the cold, which felt exacerbated by the air conditioning and the drafts coming through the door. Eventually, I noticed a table further inside the restaurant that had opened up. I approached another server, who was polite and acknowledged my discomfort, agreeing to move us. However, just as our mains arrived—while we were still at our chilly table—the server who was attending to us about our food expressed annoyance at our decision to change tables. His body language made me feel quite uncomfortable.
On a positive note, the steak I ordered was lovely, and the dessert—a chocolate bomb—was decent, although I’m not a fan of dark chocolate. I was also disappointed to see a couple next to us receiving a complimentary dessert for their anniversary. While I hadn’t expected anything special, it was disheartening to witness when they had made such an effort for others. Given the overall experience, I cannot recommend this location, and I certainly...
Read moreThe Ivy wimbledon village was suggested as a venue for my father in laws birthday in October. We have frequented the Ivy on a number of ocassions in a number of places. In general overall we have had a moderately enjoyable experience with no major incidents to report. However must quickly mention the order of olives we ordered whilst we were browsing through the menu. How can it be possible for a order of so called superb olives costing £4.50 only contain 7 olives that's right 7. That is one per person. Being of Spanish heritage where olives abound we couldn't believe the not vey generous portion. If you are going to do something surely do it properly. Anyway I digress this review of the Ivy is related to my last 2 visits to the Ivy in Wimbledon Village with the second of these visits was to use a £50 complimentary voucher which was given in response to a bad experience from our previous visit. In short on arrival the party of 4 were ushered to a table without a word being spoken and we were served by a waiter who did not know very much about giving us a memorable experience. Two of us ordered the burger which going by the menu description appeared to be a good choice. Surprised at the time and more so when we later complained that customers are not asked how they would like their burger. Wrong if I wanted a take it as it comes burger I would have gone to McDonalds. Considering what the Ivy charges for a burger you don't expect to get an over cooked burger which was then re heated and burnt at the edges the same applied to the brioche bun. We also paid extra for extra cheese and bacon which was a 3inch slice of overcooked streaky and a very small slice of cheese. Even the chips although were edable and enjoyed but served in a stainless steel pot for its aesthetics rather than the amount of chips in a portion not enough considering what they charge for the chips. All in all definitely the worse experience we have had at the Ivy and although my wife and I did return to spend the voucher I was given we won't be returning to an Ivy in the near...
