🚇 Gospel Oak 🍺 £6.50 Rustic Lager
The Duke of St Albans is located between the southern end of Highgate Cemetery and Hampstead Heath in Northwest London. The nearest station is Gospel Oak.
This pub was built in 1866, trading up until 2007 before being converted into a Greek restaurant. In April 2024, London-based pub group Graceland Pubs converted the pub back to The Duke of St Albans.
This is a spacious one bar pub that is traditionally decorated. The decor consists of a boarded floor, dark wood wainscoting, light walls and a deep red ceiling and columns. The servery is centrally located on the back wall and has a beautiful cabinet above the bar-back. To the left of the servery is a huge Tap List with a hatch below to the kitchen. There is plenty of seating mixing rustic tables and chairs plus pews and banquettes around the perimeter. At the front of the pub is some outside seating if you fancy a bit of people watching.
The beer selection is excellent and offers a broad range of beers from independent breweries. There are 22 beers to choose from including 6 cask ales. I decided on a Rustic Lager by Hackney brewery @saintmondaybrewery which incidentally is owned by Graceland Pubs. My pint hit the spot, price point was above average. The pub also stocks an extensive range of whiskies. The food menu offers hearty pub classics, sandwiches and even a full English breakfast, Roasts are available on a Sunday.
We arrived just before 3pm on a pleasant Saturday afternoon in May. The pub was fairly busy with a relaxed local pub atmosphere. The service was excellent, the team were friendly and personable and we were made to feel very welcome.
Great to see another London Pub revived and trading again. This pub was very easy to settle into and will appeal to the masses. The extensive range of beers will please the curious beer connoisseurs amongst you. The @dukeofstalbansnw was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, I would definitely recommend a visit.

Though I am a neighbour not sure how else to get a hold, it’s 11pm now and people standing outside with barking dogs laughing.
It’s been a bit of a problem recently when some people decide to stand outside with drinks and laugh loudly after 10pm. Can someone do better with asking if they can keep it down if they are outside? I know it’s closed now at 11pm but the workers are cleaning up inside and the dogs were barking and the people laughing for a good hour or a bit more. (10is to 11:30pm). I know plenty pubs try to take care of noise level even if it’s not as late as 10pm. Maybe even a sign? It’s not bad, but when it does like tonight maybe just asking to keep it down is best? Any other neighbours think so? Maybe it’s just me.
Anyway don’t mind pub night chatter ect, just when it gets out of control and no one is asking to turn it...
