Once upon a time, there was a lovely eating place called Kalendar, with a Viennese inspired coffee house known as Cafe' Mozart, next door. Then the Kalendar owner, who may have been a little greedy, bought out Mozart, but subsequently had his head turned by the success of Kalendar, so much so that he made a second Kalendar in the place where Mozart was. Mozart was no more and the locals were sad... That didn't work, so the greedy owner turned one of the Kalendars into an overpriced pizzeria, but the pizzas were sorry affairs and the locals shunned them. Finally, he turned the pizzeria back into a Kalendar again. Bizarrely, the two Kalendars tried to coexist alongside each other, but the locals couldn't help but puzzle over whether they would eat in Left Kalendar, or Right Kalendar. One was usually empty anyway and both looked forlorn, shadows of their former selves. As the locals watched this unfold, over the years, they also noticed the prices being hoiked up (presumably to pay for all the revamps, chopping and changing of Left and Right Kalendar). So disheartened and unimpressed were the local folk, that the owner only really managed to pull in a crowd at breakfast times and struggled to keep one, never mind both Left and Right Kalendars open at night, with rather pathetic attempts at themed food evenings. Many locals felt that Kalendar's day had been and gone and decided to feast elsewhere, where their money would stretch further, such as at Bistro Laz, down the...
Read moreMy wife and I went to Kalendar today for lunch. We decided to sit inside as it was starting to rain. Although we have been there several times before, we returned as it looked busy and friendly.
At this very difficult time, we are concerned how restaurants observe the many health and hygiene rules as it is extremely important to observe them as much as possible.
We were appalled by the lack of any observance to the Corvid19 rules, so here is a brief list of what was wrong... Waiting staff not wearing masks, not sure if table and chairs were sanitized, salt and pepper left on the table, knife and fork not wrapped up but out on the table, toilet disgusting with no loo paper and wet floor.
At this very dangerous and virus awareness time, this restaurant needs to read the rule book and stop ignoring the many government guidance laws.
The owner,/manager should take note and immediately improve your act before you are...
Read moreI’m surprised that this place has got so many good reviews! I went for breakfast about 10 am Sunday and it was quite nice and empty . Despite this the waiter was incredibly uptight ! Not one smile or acknowledgement - he slapped down my order on the table and was running backwards and forwards with averyresentful look on his face . The other member of staff behind the counter had the same attitude ! The food was disgusting ! I had pancetta which was burnt and very greasy . When I got the bill on top of the £3.95 I paid for juice , they charged me 50 pence extra for ginger which I thought was out of order . I ‘m sure the juice had water added . I didn’t want to say anything or complain because I felt like it was the kind of place that would not take on board any complaints and I’d probably have felt worse if idsaid anything . I definitely won’t be going...
