We visited this restaurant twice, and each experience was delightful.

Our first visit was on a quiet Sunday in April. Although the weather was a bit chilly, it was still manageable for an outdoor meal. We easily found a seat and were impressed by the excellent service. We ordered Sunday roast. The roast was recommended — the meat was tender and juicy, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Although we encountered a minor issue, it was promptly resolved.

Our second visit was during Euro 2024 on a lively Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere was completely different: the place was packed with people watching football and enjoying pints of beer. If you're unsure what to order, I highly recommend the chef’s BBQ platter. It includes pork belly, beef short ribs, chicken, and sausage, accompanied by coleslaw and Cajun fries. This combination is perfect for a barbecue meal, especially when paired with their fresh, self-brewed beers.

The portion of the platter is advertised for 2-3 people, but it might be small for those with larger appetites. For us—two women and a child—it was just right, and we were thoroughly satisfied with the flavors and textures of the meats. The beef short ribs were particularly amazing.

If you haven't visited this restaurant yet this summer, it's definitely worth...

Ok, the food was really great, meat taste was great as well as the sides. I did order a Chef’s plater that is labeled for 2/3 people to share. But the quantity of meat was so small that I had to ask the kitchen if something was missing. I could have the entire place for myself, and I’m not a huge eater. There was more sides than meat. A bit weird for a place that is famous for the meat they cook on bbq. 3 small brisket slices, a SINGLE piece of Rib (just one bone) with mostly fat on it, and a sausage. That all the meat we got served. Kitchen did gave us 2 more slices of brisket when I complained saying that is was due to the price of meat and that it was the same portion they were doing everyday. Again not saying that it was not good (it was great) but for 55Ā£, the quantity was ridiculous. Maybe just don’t advertise this a 2/3 people for this quantity and definitely not for this price. I regret not...

I really don’t know how to describe this place other than it might be the best thing ive ever put in my mouth… and I’ve been on this planet for 36 years!

The brisket (which I believe was a special) tasted incredible and literally fell apart in your mouth! Despite eating some of the best bbq in the US and UK, I’m not sure I’ve had anything quite like it..!

As for the Mac and Cheese… pretty sure I could eat my way out of a bath tub of that stuff and still go back and ask for more!

Sadly there are two problems… the first, it’s on the other side of London so I’ll probably need to crowdsource a new location or a flat above… details…

The second is I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 years ago… whilst I reversed it, I feel this will almost certainly make it come back… meh! It’s been a good run!

If you’re in Hackney and fancy a bit of meat - don’t go...

Another delicious Sunday Roast spot this time from the guys @fromtheashesbbq smokehouse located in the @fivepointscourtyard We kicked things off with the pork adobo taco and what a strong start! My eyes rolled back from the first bite; great balance of flavours and heat. We pre-ordered the whole rack of short-rib which came with all the trimmings for 3 people. I kid you not, it was HEAVENLY! Melt in your mouth, smokey goodness. Not gonna lie, I was expecting the kinda ribs they had on the Flintsones so when it came I was kinda 🧐 but quality over quantity all day. Just look at the smoke ring on that thing. And the biggest Yorkshires I’ve ever seen 🤩 The cauliflower cheese was also banging. To get a taste of the roasts we added the all-in which has a bit of all three (smoked rump, porchetta and chicken). Not disappointed at all and definitely going back!

Surprised we're only at a 4.5 here. This place deserves better. £55 in London for a plate of good quality food (heavy on meat) that comfortably feeds two people is simply tremendous value. That said, the food itself was fantastic. My favourite was the featherblade (but the smoked pork was top tier as well). Neither needed a sauce but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. Vague childhood memories of chip shop vendors decanting ASDA price tomato sauce into Heinz bottles has made me wary of foodservice sauces, but this BBQ sauce was outlandishly good. They could bottle that up and sell it as shampoo and I'd still buy. Chimichurri was on point as well. Vibes were brilliant. When I visited they were located at Five Points Brewery which just works (I don't need to explain). Anyway get yourself to From The Ashes. It's fun and it tastes good.
