Great coffee. Great service. However Gail’s are taking the michael with their new prices. A whopping £8.25 for a small coffee and a very small snack (2 bites and it is finished). No no no. This is profiteering on an amazing scale. Yes everyone is putting up prices due to Inflation. However Gail’s prices are inflation busting. I can afford these prices, but I will not be visiting Gail’s again on principle. You have to remember these miniscule cakes are not baked in store. The same cakes are served in all of their stores and come from a central bakery. As such they cannot justify prices that are 20% higher than other chain stores, some of which actually bake in store. I hope that the staff are at least paid 20% more than other coffee shops. The directors of Gail’s must be laughing at normal Londoners who simply want a cup of coffee on their travels.

Got out of Kew Gardens underground station to check out their excellent pastries. Worth every penny spent here. Top notch baked goods. Quality coffee as well. It’s always busy, a good sign. Customer service here is superb. Kids love the great selection of snacks, esp their pecan + cinnamon crumb cake and chocolate cookies.. Excellent stuff .. ideal for picnics - do check out their pistachio + sour cherry biscotti and their cream tea kits … And there’s also a deli section by the door. Just a short walk from Kew train station. If driving, there’s a sizeable carpark opposite the station complete with cycle stands

We have tried Gails in Kew Richmond and Kingston. In all three the pastries were massively over cooked. We like the seeded sourdough bread but it is sometimes way overcooked and occasionally stale. We had a Pan au raisin which was almost charcoal. We returned it and they gave us another one and told us to keep the original but it was inedible. They charge premium prices but the produce is sub par. It is such a shame. The pecan and cinnamon crumble pictured was not crumbly in a good way but dry powdery and bland.

Spent over £7 on two horrible pasties, I will never come back again. The staff looks and acts frightened, almost like they have never worked anywhere before. They are trying to be helpful but act very chaotic. They are cautions and helpful about the dietary needs requests, and that I respect and appreciate.

However... The pistachio-raspberry swirl has 'yoghurt' written on a price tag, which indicates that you will taste yoghurt in it. Don't be fooled, there's no yoghurt in there! I was told that this is 'the bakers slang for mix of sugar and lemon'. what a joke... I've been baking for years and never heard of it. It also was pretty bland and dry and chewy for a£4 pastie.

The almond croissants are disgusting and not fresh! They are re-baked, very dark, gooey and dense, and have nothing in common with freshly baked french pastry. Fresh croissants are always bright in colour, flakey and soft. Gail's croissants are like a tasteless sponge with sugar and almonds on top. There is not much filling inside either - it dried out due to the prolonged time they've spent in the oven. They are snowed under layers of icing sugar to hide that fact. It is disgraceful that the the HUGE bakery chain(and especially newly opened branch) is arrogant enough to sell that to customers. Shame on...

"Terrible experience all around - definitely one to avoid. The staff have absolutely zero manners or basic courtesy. No 'please' or 'thank you' throughout the entire interaction, just poor attitudes and no respect for paying customers whatsoever. The hot chocolate was completely overpriced at £3.70 for what was essentially tasteless, watery rubbish. For that price, you'd expect something decent, but this was genuinely awful. The seating area is ridiculously overcrowded - they've crammed so many chairs in that you can barely move between them. Makes the whole place feel cramped and uncomfortable. When you combine poor service, overpriced terrible drinks, and an uncomfortable environment, there's really nothing positive to say about this place. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values customers and serves decent drinks at fair prices. This place fails on...
