🚇 Elephant & Castle 🍺 £4.20 Heineken ❤️ An inner city estate pub in the backstreets of Walworth. . Prior to visiting most pubs I do a bit of research to learn a bit about the pub I’m visiting. After looking up The Gladstone It appeared to be a bit rough around the edges but In the interest of research I decided pay it a visit to see what this pub is all about. . This boozer is located in a quiet backstreet on the edge of a 1930’s built estate and just a short walk off busy Walworth Road. On arrival I took a few quick photos outside and proceeded to the door. This is a small boozer, so two steps from the front door and I was at the bar. I was served by who I presume to be the landlady Philomena who asked “what can I get you Honey Bunny” I ordered a pint and took a seat by the door. There were three other older punters in talking about how much property cost across London, they were nice enough fellas who were taking the piss out of each other. All the while Philomena was bottling up the pub and joining in the conversation now and then with the three fellas. . This is a small pub which has a horseshoe shaped bar at its centre and is fairly compact. The pub has a dart board and pool table on the left hand side and is simply decorated. I didn’t take too many photos nor did I ask just incase someone objected but hopefully you get a feel for the place. . I mentioned earlier that I do a bit research before I visit, everything I’ve read about this place tells of a pub that is clearly loved by the local community who come from all walks of life. Just before I left a younger fella walked in and looked over to me and said “who the fucks that” to which I finished my pint, said thanks to Philomena and stage exited left. This boozer is a tight knit locals pub and people can be wary of new faces but I didn’t hang about and moved on to my next pub. . The Gladstone reminds me of pubs I grew up in. This pub may not be to everybody’s taste and a bit rough around the edges but there is a sense of community and belonging here which in this day and age is a priceless thing. . 📊 Information correct on visiting 05/03/22

The beer is the cheapest around about £4:30 for a pint of Foster's lager. Well worth a visit if you are in the area there is a covered outside area to the front of the pub that many...
