Having read the reviews and walked past Granary Thai several times I was eagerly anticipating my first visit. Perhaps I should say that I’ve been lucky living in East London to have often visited long established down to earth and sadly now gone Thai cafes (by day) restaurants (by night) such as Tippys, The Hammers Cafe and The Siam Cafe. Since Tippy retired I’ve greatly missed the wonderful tastes, friendliness and basic decor of her place. Perhaps I’ll never find anything similar again but I was hoping (perhaps unfairly) that the Granary Thai Cafe might fit the bill. It was very empty on the Saturday night we visited. We were offered a choice of tables all accompanied by slippery seated chairs that I kept sliding forward in. We ordered starters. My companion had Spring Rolls which looked to be of frozen stock and were cold inside. I ordered Tom Yum Soup and was surprised to find whole mini plum tomatoes floating in it, just like the ones Sainsbury sell in clear plastic bags. This really didn’t work for me, otherwise it was very dilute and lacked tang and bite. Despite this it was the nicest thing I ate in the restaurant. The waiter then took our orders for main courses, only for one of his colleagues - maybe a cook - to soon visit us. He at first said we couldn’t have one of the dishes we’d ordered and suggested we try something else but then changed his mind and said it was ok. We were a little perplexed and then the original waiter returned to ask if it was sorted out. In fact throughout the evening the waiter visited us numerous times seemingly perched and watching like a Hawk eager to remove any item of crockery or cutlery that might become available. We found this interrupted our conversation and what little enjoyment we took from the food. We had sea food dishes but the flavours were flat, the rice was ok as were the prawn crackers. When we’d given up on eating and it was time to pay another staff member asked if we’d pay cash and how was the meal. We mentioned that the Spring Rolls were cold and appreciated her refunding us for this item. Maybe we were unlucky and caught the restaurant on an off night, or perhaps our expectations were unrealistically high. Maybe we should have had an alcoholic drink prior to eating and the restaurant does seem well stocked with drinks. So the search goes on. There is The Singburi in Leytonstone which is nicely down to earth and tasty but there’s a very long waiting list for...

I've recently ordered from this restaurant through an app. However for some reasons the app doesn't allow me to write a review at the moment. Unfortunately, both me and my boyfriend got sick after dinner and didn't feel well for a couple of days. I've contacted the app to let them know and they opened an investigation. During this time especially, restaurants should be extra careful. It was the first time I've ordered from this restaurant but I don't think I will give them a second chance. Edit: the restaurant called to apologise which was appreciated. However they said 1. another person got sick on the same night. 2. this rarely happens to them. (Rarely should be Never instead. This really worries me.) 3. That it might be because the driver took long to take the food. (In that case the food would have been cold which wasn't the case and for cold food we wouldn't have been sick for 2 days). Definitely they didn't use fresh ingredients(we ordered pad thai with prawns and red curry with beef. The pad thai tasted a bit off but I thought it was me as my bf didn't notice it.). Conclusion: I won't order from this restaurant again. By the look of it they are ok risking...

The food was amazing but the restaurant charged us higher prices than what is stated in the menu on top of service fee (we also confirmed with them if we were looking at the right menu as the menus had inconsistent pricing. To which they said they’ve updated the prices). When asked for the bill, we were given a bill with faded ink which was really difficult to read. They claimed that there was an issue with their receipt paper so we just paid the amount we were told to. Didn’t find out we were being overcharged until we read the receipt later on after we left the restaurant. Despite really liking the food, we are deeply disappointed in their lack of integrity. We can’t be sure if the faulty receipt paper was a mistake or a deliberate attempt to mislead customers. I rarely post reviews but I guess just be careful in case they use similar...

First time trying this place and was not disappointed! Lovely small independent restaurant with superb food. They didn't hold back on the spice, great balance and flavours to the dishes. The service couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating and the décor gives a nice look and feel. They're currently offering 10% off dine in eating 05.04.22. I'll definitely be going back again. It's by far the best Thai I've tried in the local area. We ate: Beef kra-pao, green chicken curry, som tum and prawn drunken noodles. All were excellent.

Really nice little thai restaurant, great decor, good music and atmosphere. The food is quite authentic and well presented. Have eaten here a few times now, and have always had a very nice time. The staff are really attentive and friendly. It's a little overpriced, and some of the meat quality could be a touch higher, but still thoroughly recommended. The mango & black sticky rice dessert was possibly the best I've ever had, and I've had lots.
