We arrived and there was nowhere for us to be seated Jai Krishna’s a piss take! I almost tweeted But before long we were taken to our table And placed down our wine, with the colourful label
As we scanned the menu, I took a moment of pause From the other side of the room, there erupted some roars A birthday party perhaps, or a hen or stag do I thought as Zac cried, let’s get the sag aloo
Five poppadums we ordered, one for each man And chutneys and pickles, of which I’m a fan We ordered dishes a plenty, every kind you could think of When they arrived, the tables edge, they were on the brink of
There was rice, and aubergine and broccoli and spinach A spread that scratched every single culinary itch There was potato and dhal, fragrant and creamy Mopped up with chapatti, oh how it was dreamy
Before long we were so full, we could barely move The last potato, James requested, and we were glad to approve Zac had work the next day, so he had to dash Remembering they don’t take card, I nipped out to get cash
The bill was paid, a mere £16 per head This is insanely good value, one of us said As it was a wonderfully chaotic, Indian scene And I recommend going, if you still...

We sat there for a good 20min without being served so flagged the waitress who said we have to write our own orders down and hand it back to her. The menu items aren’t numbered, so you have to literally write out every starter, curry, side dish and drinks you want by hand. Needlessly time consuming.
The food was pretty good but came out bit by bit and fairly slow. Especially as there were only 2 tables occupied.
At the end, we were given our paper back with the amounts written down. It didn’t seem correct but I had to leave. I got my card out and was told cash only. They advised me where the local cash point was so I walked down the street but one of the numbers didn’t work on the machine so I couldn’t take money out. Had to walk back to the restaurant and get my wife to go out and get the money. So much hassle.
Can’t believe a business that’s been around for 30-40 years has cash only and requires you to write out your own tickets for the kitchen staff. Seems kind of dodgy…
Food is pretty good though and it’s...
Read moreA deservedly popular and lively veggie Indian restaurant on Stroud Green Road. The premises are unassuming but the food and atmosphere are great. Having travelled around India, the food at Jai Krishna is the most authentic I've found since coming back. The meat dishes with sweet, thick sauces we're used to in the UK is derived from Mughal cuisine - the aristocratic food of north India. The food at Jai Krishna is much more representative of the diet of the majority of ordinary Indians. Sambar, dosa, idli and vada are originally of south Indian origin, but are popular across the country, while the various curried vegetable options, and the particular mixtures of spices used, take me straight back to the food I was eating every day while travelling. And of course, it's all veggie - as most Indians are. The prices are great too, and it's usually packed in the evenings. It's BYO, but there's a good off licence...
