I have been to Granger & Co. last summer (July 2024) when I was in London and we really enjoyed our brunch. Someone living in London recommended the place to us when we asked for a good breakfast place. Food was delicious and we really enjoyed the ambiance.
I was happy to be back again this summer. I chose to sit in the same luminous area right to the end of the restaurant when the person working at Granger & Co. guided me to sit in the middle area which I did not prefer sitting in. The person who I first saw at the restaurant who guided me to a table was not that friendly. However, another employee who seemed to be the manager and is called Ilias was friendly and made it up to me to sit in the 4-seater table (as I was alone and said I might have one person join). Ilias was lovely and more welcoming than the first employee who was guiding me to a table.
Andrew was our waitor and we surely were very lucky to have him! He was so lovely and patient with us and really did a great job. It really showed he enjoyed his job and makes sure he meets our needs and is always available when we needed him
I had an unpleasure incident with the first employee and decided to express my frustration to the manager Ilias who made it up for me and was very understanding.
I had two others join me and we all enjoyed our breakfast. We had 2 egg meals (fluffy scrambled eggs, poached eggs & fried (sunny side up) eggs as well as the fruit bowl, halloumi cheese and other add ons).
We enjoyed our food and would surely come back again.
I stayed behind to do some work on my laptop and ordered a turmeric latte.
Because of the unpleasant incident I had from the first employee, Ilias made it up to me and offered a complimentary chocolate pecan cookie.
I would surely come back again as the food was delicious, the place is nice, the seating was comfortable and thats to Andrew we had great customer service. Thanks to Ilias too who made it up do me due to the incident I had with the first employee.
I would give the service 5 stars thanks to Andrew and Ilias but due to the unpleasant incident I had from the first employee who was serving me to the table, I give it 4 stars.
I highly...
Read moreAppalling manners by incompetent and complacent staff.
The last two times I went there I ended up leaving because of the complete lack of manners by the staff working there.
Roughly a month ago I went for breakfast and ordered a cappuccino while waiting for my main order. After 25 minutes I was served with a cold cappuccino and no food; as I complained about the wait and also about the cappuccino that had gone completely cold, I was told by the manager that she did not know that the cappuccino was cold as she had not tried it (!!!) to then added that she did not know what else to do. Having no desire to teach what looked like a college girl how to run a restaurant and how to do her job on my free time, I left without waiting for my eggs whose arrival was - at that time - still to be determined. (By the way the couple by my side, who arrived well before me, told me that I got luck to get, at least, a cappuccino as they were still waiting for their order).
Today I decided to give it another go and went there for an early dinner and asked for a table for two. When I asked if the background music could be lowered just a bit as we (the waiter and me/us) could not hear each other, we got the following response “Guys, this is a public restaurant which cannot accomodate the requests of a sigle person”. I will overlook on the rather impersonal way to address some unknown customers from what looked to be a late (and quite ill mannered) teenager. I was, however, tempted to ask if he had ran a poll among the “public” customers of his public restaurant” to define the music volume and if he risked to incur in a fine had he violated the unwritten volume rule and decreased the decibels even just by a little bit…
One thing is certain: the staff is way too young, too untrained or maybe just rather too complacent to care about the quality of the service they are providing for the money the place is charging.
Pity because the food is good (unless its quality has deteriorated in line with the staff manners), but I guess those doing their best in the kitchen are not aware that their efforts are being wasted by a group of college kids pretending to be hospitality...
Read moreThe food at Granger & Co is incredible regardless of which branch you go to or get it for home delivery. The restaurants have a lovely design and are really comfortable.
The Marylebone restaurant is particularly great for coffee and dog watching as today when we visited a few customers came in with them. We had coffee and desserts after shopping. The semifreddo and peach was delicious. The girls who served us were lovely and very professional. The toilets are down quite a few stairs if that is an issue for you.
The problem we had today was there was a girl who had her first shift working there. She was very nice and polite but a bit nervous. We were not there for very long, the very tall male hiring manager was berating her telling her "you have had your induction this morning you should know what to do already" and more. They were standing in the middle of the cafe and we.were in the front window bay - opposite ends of the room in a buzzy cafe and we heard everything. It seemed a really weird thing to do and was a total buzz kill. Not just for our afternoon but for the poor girl. You could see her nerves just increase. Towards us leaving he did it again. The vibe was really uncomfortable - a conversation like that should never be in front of customers.
When we first arrive the man I mentioned seated us and I asked what the gluten free options are on the dessert menu. He said that "the menu was very limited unfortunately" and pointed to a QR code to scan. Thank goodness we did because a large number of desserts were gluten free - as well as the rest of the menu...
On the positive side one of our party brought the "training" up with him and another manager and took the recommendation on board. Fingers crossed they improve their training practices.
And to reiterate - the food is exceptional at Granger & Co. We were just unlucky that...
