Why you'd find yourself on Sheen unless you happened to live near the area is a good question, but alongside a very decent selection of restaurants sits this little, or rather not-so-little gem of a pub. To say it's spacious in an understatement. The beer garden is probably bigger than my entire house put together and on a sunny day, this may well be one of the best places to sun yourself with a pint in South West London.
There's a good selection of drinks, including a couple of guest boxes of Weston's cider, Young's ales and all the usuals you'd expect, plus a tasty food menu with plenty of choice. The garden is spacious, with an outside bar, and during the Olympics they've rigged up a couple of TVs. There's even a jokingly fenced off "adults enclosure", and there was a nice mix of parents, young professionals and locals all getting along quite pleasantly.
Then there's my favourite part of the pub - a large selection of well-known and very obscure board games that appear to have been frozen in time from the 1980s, along with mini table-tennis and snooker for hire. I could happily be deposited and entertained in this place for an entire day.
And while this may sound like the perfect summer pub (and it is), my first visit came in the cold depths of winter where, despite its rather grand rooms, the bar had a very cosy feel to it.
As mentioned, you're unlikely to find yourself near this place unless you're a local or taking a road trip to Barnes or Richmond, so there's only one solution - get searching for a friend in Sheen now. Yes, you'd be using a friendship just to visit a pub, but when the pub's this good, it's a more than...
Read moreWe deliberately picked here as we have 4 kids under 5 and it states âfamily friendlyâ on the website. Anything but. The four kids meals came 15 minutes after all the adult food (6 meals which also took 30 mins and wasnât busy) this was a nightmare to manage; we appreciate the different kitchens send different menus at different times (not ideal but can understand) but surely some common sense with kids food, especially when they ordered all the same. When kids had finished they started to run around a bit - as 1-4 year olds do. There were 2 other family groups and 2 couples - so not busy and we were watching them whilst (as parents know) we actually managed to have a conversation! We were immediately told that the kids had to stay at the table. The 1 year old was crawling by our table and we were then told he shouldnât as there could be glass, which we would expect in a pub and were fully aware of. This was told to us curtly and with no empathy or apology. The kids had to then sit and watch our phones while we finished, Completely undermining our reason for family pub and garden. To top off our unwelcoming visit!! One of our children lost our tab key. Fully appreciate complete inconvenience but we were spoken to rudely and the supervisor just dismissed us and didnât return. We were then told we couldnât have our bank card back!! We were left for 20 minutes not knowing what was happening. Never felt so unwelcome anywhere. Not sure what the pubâs definition of âfamily friendlyâ is but clearly website created by people without kids. Wouldnât recommend or return. Ruined family occasion and annual catch-up. Donât advertise something...
Read moreTonight (29.6.23) i had the worse experience in my entire life. I used to come to Hare & Hounds often but not anymore after todayâs experience. On arrival, the staff told me that we are not allowed to stay after 20:00 with children under 18 years old, I said it is strange because I came here before and stayed with my son until after 20:00 to have dinner. 5 minutes past 20:00 a family of four arrived and ordered a food. I approach a waiter and asked if I was allowed to place an order, he said he would speak to his manager and few minutes after he did bring the menu and said it was ok, I was ordering food, another waiter came and asked me to leave because of the new rules. I was with a few friends and it was really embarrassing. I raised the issue about the family having dinner, if they would ask them to leave straight way, I was told no. I am taking this as discrimination towards me and my son. I asked for the GM number to call him and raise it, I left a voice message as his phone was busy, he called me back and left a voice message which was very unprofessional. So, at Hare & Hounds âEast Sheenâ, I do not advise any family to go anymore even because of the discrimination they have towards...
