HI-TIDE — Restaurant in London

Chips were nice as usual, however me and my wife were put off the counter service.

Usually our favourite Chip Shop. Arrived around 2 pm on Saturday 12th April (edited).

Clearly asked for 2 small portions of chips. Staff member serving us assumed we wanted Code with this , thus he replied "only have medium and large Cod available". Reiterated saying we only want small chips clearly. That's when the Staff member seemed to get irate as if we said something wrong while tossing a box (assuming we wanted Cod) on the counter at the same time showing his frustration.

I understand that the gentleman might be stressed for some other reason or maybe a customer before us annoyed him. However there's no need to express rude behaviour with anybody let alone a customer.

We were quite well spoken so fail to understand why Hi-Tide Staff lack the patience or communicate calmly.

I pondered whether he may not like Brown people, but I doubt it as we have been before. I understand this is a small business and he might be going through other stresses, but Hi-Tide needs to train their Staff with more patience...

Bought a med cod and large chips tonight. Absolutely disgusting the chips were so oily they broke as you picked them up and the cod was dry and totally bland. What's up with that batter as well no flavour what so ever. I haven't been there in years but I was in the area so thought I have cod n chips but never again from there I won't ever be returning. What happened to the good quality where has it gone? Chips should not be that oily you feel like you've drank a bottle of crisp n dry after eating less than a 1/3 of an portion and chips should not break apart and be that mushy either. Honestly such a shame the standards have dropped that low. I've taken a picture but I'm unable to upload it. Won't recommend and will not return again. Sorry but it really was that bad. Thanks for reply but after that amount of oil and the terrible cod what's the point in bringing it back. That's what quality control is about ensuring the food is of a good standard. It wasn't like the shop was busy. Also you stated the new potatoes hold a bit of oil this wasn't a bit of oil they were...

I just got home with my a large cod and large portion of chips from Hi-Tide, expecting a satisfying helping to enjoy with my kids. However, upon arriving home and opening the package, I was extremely disappointed. The portion size was minuscule, barely filling the container. To my surprise, the excessive amount of wrapping paper made the package seem much larger than it actually was.

Disgruntled, I decided to visit another chip shop nearby. Even their small portion was significantly bigger than the "large" one from Hi-Tide, and the chips themselves were noticeably fresher.

To add to the negative experience, the service at Hi-Tide was sluggish. I waited at the counter for at least 3 minutes before being acknowledged by the staff, who seemed inattentive despite me being the only customer waiting to be served.

Overall, my experience at Hi-Tide was a low tide of disappointment. I won't be returning...
