Hoxton Fish House is located on Pittfield Street between De Mezca (Turkish restaurant) and Friends of Mine (coffee shop) about 250 meters from Old Street. While it features a prominent neon sign it is not distinctive and easily missed. The interior is rustic and well appointed compared to more traditional fish and chips shops. There are two long and narrow tables that offer seating on stools or chair accommodating about twelve people.

The menu includes the staples of pies, sausages, burgers, chicken and fish featuring a kids menu and five salads. The fish menu is its strongest offering with fresh cod, skate, rock, sea bass, haddock and scampi in offer priced between £10.95 and £14.95. The only grilled fish on the menu is the salmon fillet. The menu also features beers, wine and sodas.

The most popular option - which I selected after being promoted by the waitress - seems to be their lunch special which run from 12 to 5 in the afternoon and includes a generous fish & chips portion, a small portion of tartar sauce and a choice of a cold or warm drink for £7.90. A cup of tea or coffee is on the house for customers that choose a soda or water as their drink. Each order is battered and cooked fresh which makes the fish crispy and not oily. The chips are also fresh and cooked to a soft cruchy consistency. While not a fan of fish and chips, Hoxton Fish House serves a fresh tasty variation.

The service is extremely friendly and efficient - especially from the waitresses who are incredibly polite and attentive. However be advised Hoxton Fish Shop is a cash only establishment. Unlike other similar shops that dispense sachets of sauce and vinager, these guys put hole bottles at your disposal. Hoxton Fish House is definetly worth a visit for no frills freshly...

It's 9:30pm, I'm out on a walk and I come across this charming fish joint that I've never tried though I live so close by. I ask for Cod bites, expecting them to be drying on the usual metal racks. Boy...am I wrong. The kind gentlemen freshly fried 6-7 massive cod bites of which 1-2 of them could form a whole Cod fillet in the usual portion you get at a Fish and Chip shop.

Of course, this is no ordinary Fish and Chip shop. The batter was well-seasoned, incredibly crispy and coated the fish really nicely. The fish was whole and not too flaky unlike the ones that usually break apart due to not being fresh. The cod bites were so tender and the drizzle of lemon just accompanied it well. It was piping hot, scrumptious and hit the spot.

Genuinely, this place is insane quality and value for the price. £7.95 got me more fish than a £12-14 place would provide. Massive fan here, will be back to try their other fish and possibly get a side of...

Excellent fish and chips, had the haddock and it was large, fresh, and nice batter. Chips seemed fresh cut, good taste but not very crispy (personal preference). Tartar sauce seemed homemade, was super nice. Further exceeding that is the fried whitebait appetizer which was the best we’ve ever had globally, fried in cornmeal batter and so tasty. The whitebait here are not the tiny style from New Zealand but instead are rather big (meaning bigger than say a sardine), quantity received was more than expected or mentioned in the menu — we LOVED them! Salt and pepper squid was very good, no issues but not world best category like the whitebait. Staff here pleasant and attentive. We ate in, and the tables were decent, clean, comfortable. Bathroom okay. Nice neighborhood. In summary we really enjoyed this place and we’ll likely be back here nice time we...

We couldn't come to London and not have a proper Fish & Chips for a meal. On our first night we found that Hoxton Fish House was rather close to where we were staying, which made it a short walk to get to and from. The interior is quaint, very quiet but the staff was friendly. I ordered the tradition Fried Cod with a side of chips. Although it didn't come in a newspaper like my friend and I were told that the best fish and chips came in. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal! You may be thinking...what about the tartar? Well, I'm here to tell you that you also get a side of tartar. Order two if you can, it did just the trick to pair along with the fish. The cod was fresh, as well as the chips. Highly recommend that you stop by if you find yourself in the Hoxton neighborhood.
