We're a pretty fussy family when it comes to authentic Japanese goods or fusion cuisine because we used to have a master chef on tap. There's a current pan asian cum european thin going on with vegetarian and vegan food at th moment. Itsu's salad boxes fit the bill for this. I bought a falafel Bento salad box for half price at 9.30 pm on a Wednesday evening and my son had a salmon sushi box which came to a grand total of £5.89. A tasty bargain made possible by Itsu 's delightful policy of clearing the branch of all imminently perishable salads and sushi boxes at half price, a half an hour before closing. A guy rings a big old fashioned school bell at 9.30 and the hungry hordes come flocking. There's no pushing or shoving and you still have time to sit in to eat it if you don't want it bagged. We took ours into an impromptu cinema visit and it was wonderful. Will be back for more bargain Bento boxes. It is rather sad but ltsu will have to now look at how it retains its regular customers in the wake of Ichibas arrival. I think the two are far enough apart geographically to cater for different grazers. Perhaps Itsu should introduce loyalty stamp cards like Ole and Steen has. Itsu hasn't the distraction of trying to make you buy other random goods like packet food, chopsticks and teapots ! It's so peaceful late at night that l recommend it for that alone. You can be your own private diner enjoying the fake orchids so much that you forget they...
Read moreI used to hate sushi and would refuse to even consider Japanese food. I tried some vegetarian sushi from Tesco and decided that westernised sushi was more suitable for my palette than traditional Japanese.
I wanted to step up my game and get something a little more authentic by looking for fresh sushi. However, I needed somewhere that was westernised so that my palette could handle the flavours.
Thus begins my journey to ITSU.
As a westernised chain of food that is produced daily in store - it’s the perfect place for me to eat. The white city store is located on the top floor towards the back and past the food court. It has a large shop with plenty of seating and fridges stocked up.
I daily choose the veggie dragon roll and the vegan dumplings with teriyaki sauce. I find that the sweetness of teriyaki and the fried onions on the dragon roll bring a western charm, while the rest brings a little bit of Japanese culture to the United Kingdom.
For me, the avo rolls were too strong a flavour, but for around 500 calories and £6 the dumplings and dragon roll are perfect for each day of...
Read moreI absolutely love this brand and this location is great.
The quality of the food, especially for the price, is exceptional. The variety - sushi, gyoza, soups, rice bowls, smoothies, granola - is inspiring for anyone who wants to eat well.
There's also a great choice of snacks, which are equally well priced.
This cafe has heaps of seating and it has been really well designed allowing space for individuals and larger groups. Available inside over two levels, as well as in a kiosk space just outside the store, you can take a seat in a quiet corner or eat and people watch. The tables offer USB ports, elevated tray shelves and bag hooks under the tables.
Grab a bottle of Asahi, slurp your noodles and dream of your next...
