đTooting Broadway đşÂ ÂŁ2.77 Carlsberg
JJ Moonâs is located at a busy junction on Tooting High Street. The nearest Tube is Tooting Broadway which is just across the road.
This pub was converted from a shop in 1991 and was one of the earliest Spoons in South London. The pub is on the site of Tooting Public Baths, which opened in 1907 and demolished in 1981.
The name J.J. Moonâs was inspired by the Moon Under Water, the âideal pubâ imagined by George Orwell, who described the fictional pub in a 1946 article. There are four JJ Moonâs around London.
This is a long and narrow spoons which has a low ceiling and minimal natural light. The decor is traditional Spoons fixtures and fittings with wood panelling on the walls, colourful floral prints and photographs of Edwardian Tooting. The servery is located on the right and stretches down half the length of the bar. The seating consists of poser tables at front and low level tables and chairs at the back. Carpet wise, itâs not overly jazzy.
The beer line up had a familiar Spoons feel which includes five cask ales to choose from. I decided on a pint of Carlsberg, my pint hit the spot and remarkably cost less than three quid. The food offering as ever is a combination of deep fried and freshly microwaved fayre, Fish & Chips with an alcoholic drink costs ÂŁ12.18.
I arrived around 10.30am to start my crawl exploring the sights and sounds of SW17. The pub was fairly quiet and calm, there were lots of solo imbibers and a few punters sat at the back having breakfast. I did pop back around 6.30pm to use the loo before heading home, the pub was packed to rafters with a boisterous atmosphere. The service wasnât great, the team member who served me seemed to be inconvenienced by me wanting to be served.
Visiting JJ Moonâs was an average Spoons experience, nothing really special here. One thing I would say, is that the price point is great for older locals who canât afford to spend double the price in other local establishments. So if you fancy a cheap pint in Tooting or a pee before getting the Tube, JJ Moonâs is worth a look.

Read moreI can't say I'm a Wetherspoons expert, but this pub probably has to be one of their worst in their estate. My friend and I went on a late Thursday afternoon, and the place was RAMMED. It was small, overcrowded, tatty, and full of old men. Definitely not a place to take a girlfriend to.
The food menu was pretty non existent, just mainly burgers, but priced reasonably, especially if you got a beer with it. I couldn't see what their Score on the Door was, but I wouldn't have been surprised if it was a 3... But in fairness to Wetherspoons, they usually have 4-5 rating, with nearly all of them being 5*.
If you want cheap food, go to Kennedy's next door, it's a fish and chip shop that sells more than F&C.
With the negatives out of the way, we can deal with the positives (there are not that many). Beer prices are really cheap, really cheap, ÂŁ2-ÂŁ2.50 for a pint of real ale - FANTASTIC!!!
The location is great as well, right next to the tube station.
The girls behind the bar were quite friendly, and efficient, but there was a big Polish/Eastern European bloke working there (could have been a manager/supervisor), who was rude, and when I asked for a food menu he was giving me hassle saying they were on the tables, which they were not. Only the drinks menu. I did not see a single food menu on any of...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting and the food was beautiful I got a all day breakfast and drink. The sausages were absolutely amazing. I was sitting on table 41 and I was ask by the security officers if I had wrote on the table, I said no. I thought it was very strange anyway someone had scapped the word JAM, I told the security officers no it was not me, as I am 42 year old woman who is a carer, I did tell the security officers to look at the two cameras near me then they will see its not me who damaged their table. I am 42 years old mixed race woman and some of the local said it is because I look about 19 or 20 years ago and not to worry take it as a compliment. All I wanted to eat and have one drink as I had a day free to myself. I did complain to the staff and I was told that there are people who have vandalise the pub toilets. I think it is a big disgrace for people to vandalise the pub or anything else that is not there's. When I left I did talk to the security officer and he did apologised to me. I apologise to the security officer too because I thought he was being racist and single me out, because off the way they approached me when I was sitting down eating my food. This pub is lovely and the staff and locals are nice they talked to me and made me feel welcome. God...
