In London there exists a hidden gem that transports you thousands of miles away to the vibrant and flavourful landscapes of Guyana. Nestled in the heart of the city, this unique restaurant stands as a testament to the artistry of its chefs and the warmth of its staff. From the moment you step through the door, the fragrant aromas envelop you, signalling the beginning of a culinary journey like no other. This establishment, one of the few to bring authentic Guyanese cuisine to London, is not just a restaurant; it's a home away from home, an invitation to experience the rich tapestry of Guyanese culture.
What truly sets this restaurant apart, however, is not just the exceptional food but the extraordinary people behind it. Ms Faye and her wonderful staff went above and beyond to make us feel like a treasured guest in their home. My family come from 1st generation Guyanese emigrants and, like many children born in different countries than their parents, one of the main ways we can experience our roots is through food. Ms Faye even went out of her way to speak to my father, who is an incredibly reserved man who does not easily talk with strangers, and he lit up while chatting with her about old times. It was an especially heartwarming dinner for us as a family as it is the first time we were able to go out and really celebrate our heritage, I hope Ms Faye wants to adopt us now as I think her restaurant is going to turn into the official family eating spot for the foreseeable future (and dad was already talking about going back for the black pudding on Fridays!). We were also a massive table and we took up nearly the whole restaurant, but they were nonplussed - we were not hurried or pushed, which for people with kids and older family, can be much appreciated in a restaurant setting.
In a city where culinary options are abundant, this Guyanese gem stands out not just for its exceptional cuisine but for the love and passion that infuse every aspect of the dining experience. With each sip of Sorrel and each bite of curry I was transported back to family parties, to love and good times. My evening at Kaieteur Kitchen Original really inspired me to write this review, because Ms Faye and her fantastic crew really deserve the praise and more. Thank you all for making our evening so special.

Read moreWow! I am Guyanese from NY visiting London. My brother and I happen to both be in London at the same time for business. I have heard about the food here being good, So we decided to check this out. We were not disappointed at all.
First, let me say, the four ladies who were there were very friendly and they took very good care of us, and it was the authentic Guyanese experience. I like small establishments where the atmosphere is created by the people who own and run the establishment while you are there.
The food is off the chain. Hands-down, this is the best Guyanese restaurant food I have tasted in a restaurant. The flavor and the quality comes close to two of the best Guyanese cooks I know, My mother and my aunt. I had the curry beef, Spinach rice, and spinach. My brother had the coconut lamb, Spinach, trace, and the pumpkin. The meat was flavored well very tender, and the curry sauce was perfect. Seasoned rice was incredible, and the pumpkin was off the chain.
We happen to be there a day when they made pepper pot. The crew next to us came there specifically for that, They heard it was legendary, And the ladies behind the counter gave us in sampling. It Was perfect and made it feel just like Christmas or New Year’s Day.
So, we had to try the fried chicken. The fried chicken tasted like my grandmother fried chicken. It was Guyanese perfect. If you Guyanese, you know the fried chicken is the best fried chicken anywhere and this definitely was that. It was flavored perfectly.
The pepper sauce was home made and excellent and it was a nice compliment to all of the food. I asked Fay how she made it, and she makes it with the authentic recipe ingredients.
We took home a piece of the rum cake/black cake, And ate it at the hotel and it was also perfect To where you can taste that the fruits were soaked for the right amount of time.
Based on the flavor of the food, I can tell there’s a lot of care and time that goes in the preparation, And the ladies working, there were a wonderful, which is what makes the food so excellent.
I highly recommend Kaieteur Kitchen for anyone craving a great meal. If you, Guyanese, or West Indian And you want the home experience then...
Read moreHugely disappointed on this visit.........and I haven't yet tasted the food! I placed an order for a future date, having had the best experience in service and food here before, and phoned an hour before collection time to confirm that I was on my way. I was told all was fine. I arrived to be told that they thought the order was for the next day; nevertheless they put it together. The order given to me was incorrect and I was directly told what they thought I'd ordered. I asked them to remove the excess items and suddenly the price of the roti increased! I questioned this and was told that the prices had increased; even though the menus stated the same prices that I was quoted when I placed the order. I therefore paid the extra money, only to find out that I was short of an item when I reached home. They were not able to give me a receipt for the payment, or at least it seemed bothersome. All in all they got the date wrong, the order wrong, changed the price in a flash and miscounted the items I asked for. I later called them to speak to the manager or the person who took my original order but neither were present. The lady I spoke to seemed to think I was fortunate because the prices were actually much higher but the lady, Bunmi, who took my original order had made a mistake and they therefore felt obliged to charge the 'lower' price. Sadly I will not return or recommend Kaieteur Kitchen. I felt disappointed, cheated and disrespected. I cannot comment on the food as I was too vexed to eat...
