I was really, really disappointed in the dinner I ordered from KamPai Kensington tonight. It was on the expensive side, but I was happy to splurge for a really nice meal, but instead came away feeling, quite frankly, like I had fallen for some sort of scam. The Shishito (pardon) peppers, which were accompanied on the Deliveroo menu by a picture of a lovely little pile of green peppers, were four in number and attempted to make up for their numbers through sheer size. This presumably accounts for the fact that they were so undercooked that they were still crunchy. There was little to no salt, which we added ourselves, but it felt typical of the lack of care that seemed to characterise the preparation of the dishes we were delivered. Although there was no salt, there was a fifth pepper stalk. The salmon tataki had not been seared, and is so obviously entirely uncooked that I at first assumed I had been sent the salmon sashimi. The slices were so thin that one of them was literally see-through, and the slicing had been absolutely botched; all slices were of uneven thickness and the sides on three were jagged. It arrived covered by sesame seeds and scallion, like the buried evidence of some terrible crime. The makimono was not as objectionable, but the salmon in the makimoto was slightly slimy and quite soft, and didn’t at all have the firmness and bounce of fresh, high-quality salmon. There were only two prawn tempura. The crispy cucumber in the Wakame Kyuri Su was soft and slimy. The Atsu yaki was alright, but not more. The scallop sashimi was the only saving grace out of the eight items we ordered, and was genuinely nice. The scallops tasted fresh, and the flavour was delicate. But out of the eight items bought only the scallop sashimi was finished, and overall, this is the second-worst sushi I have ever had, and it only loses the race to the bottom because the worst one actually gave us food poisoning.

This is my 2nd time to be here, but really upset me , no train and made me late and especially today is Friday..... i wish I could call but I m stuck in the train without signal to call...and staff didn't message or call me and gave away my seat and put us outside under freezing weather (only 5 degree ) even have plenty of empty tables also don't give us table and bullying us and insulting us in front of all customers (you are late ! ! You are late !! you are late!!(with loudly and clear voice) which traffic issue I can't control which we told her before. It really hurts. if you are customer, will you want to be insulted in front of lots of people ? really upset us even bar table have seat don't ask us come in , only put us waiting outside in today freezing weather and until we asked, also don't clean up table until we asked to clear. It is really disappointed service. Really upset us for the service especially that girl in cashier without listening and understanding. Just keep on bullying and punishment us in front of all customer. It is really inappropriate behavior and unprofessional service. Foods are great and outstanding , but cashier that girl is really scary us and not suitable to work in this restaurant! Maybe she is the owner so she no need to care how customer feeling or opinion whether customer is loyal customer. If she is owner I hope she can improve her behavior! Food quality is amazing !

Beautiful, delicious food, bursting with flavour. Can't fault the experience. My husband and I had a bento box each and a dragon roll to share. I had the chicken teriyaki bento and was amazed at the depth of flavours with each bite, the charred flavours with the sweet and sticky sauce were perfectly balanced with the rice and the dressing in the salad. My husband had the tonkatsu bento box and he was also very happy with his choice. We were both pleasantly full and blown away by the quality and talent to prepare such dishes. Every aspect of the food was perfect and possibly the best Japanese restaurant we've been to which was a most pleasant surprise. It is incredible value for money. The service is great as well, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. We wanted to come back again to try their katsu curry but unfortunately we couldn't, as we were no longer in the area (we travelled all the way from Newcastle!). Next time we are in London, we will definitely make sure to visit again. Highly recommend!

We had dinner at kampai tonight, wasn’t really full so we were looking forward to a good night and great food.

Unfortunately the arrival already started in a way which I’m not used to in a restaurant. There was a server who either hasn’t mastered English or just plain refused to talk to customers. Bit of a disappointment but we went on to order food, after ordering starters we both went for a nice main course. First things that got delivered were the main courses, followed soon after by one of the 2 starters we ordered. In all honesty taste wise the food was good, me being a big and hungry boy however was a bit disappointed to see only the starter of my girlfriend arrived and I had to make due with just my main. Half way my main I decided to enquire about my starter, I can’t really do with only a main. The girl I enquired with did manage to muster out something in English and said she would directly check and get back to me. Me very happy cause the end of my main was coming in to sight.

15 minutes later and after licking the last grains of rice from my main plate I gave up on my starter so decided to order the bill. Unfortunately the bill didn’t arrive but the starter! After thanking them for still getting the starter done but it wouldn’t really work as a desert, the bill also arrived. The bill not only contained service charge but also the starter which wasn’t enjoyed. Asking them about how that could be, the owner of the place responded with the words ‘nobody tells me anything’, I decided to remind him that I actually just told him the story. After a lot of grumbling from his part he did deduct it from the bill.

Short summary, food is decent but I’ve been watching Gordon Ramsey shows and have felt treated better than I have...
