I would have given this restaurant 5 stars for the food alone as it was outstanding, however I am writing this review based on the lack of christmas spirit and lack of friendliness from the staff and for this reason alone, I am afraid it only deserves 3 stars. I booked a table for our christmas party having experienced a good evening there a few months back when they had a live jazz band playing. I spoke to the manager about booking a table for our christmas staff party and asked what the entertainment would be like for the Christmas parties. He explained that it was too early to say but normally the jazz band plays one night during the week. He advised me to book a table and call up nearer the time to check what entertainment would be on. I did call and was told that no entertainment was confirmed and to call nearer the time. When I called again I was informed that there would be no entertainment on the night that we booked 21st Dec. I have to say it was very disappointing to hear this and I was left with no option but to keep the booking as it was too late to book elsewhere. I never had a call from the restaurant to confirm the booking or numbers which was a little strange too as there was 16 of us.
The restaurant had a christmas menu so you would expect a hint of the festivies on the night.....there was not a decoration in sight, let alone a bit of music and throughtout the evening, the staff struggled to put a smile on their faces (also noted on my last visit). I suggested to the manager that it would be a lovely gesture for the restaurant to offer a little cheer at the end of the night given that our bill came to just under £1k. They did offer this to the last few of us that remained at the table. I'm guessing that if I hadn't had asked, then it wouldn't have been forthcoming.
I spoke to the manager briefly at the end of the night to let him know that I was disppointed with the overall lack of any sort of cheer. I don't think he appreciated the feedback, hence my...
Read moreWhen we arrived, despite having a (birthday) booking, the waitress acted like we were walk-ins & as if she couldn’t find a table for us even though the restaurant was almost empty. She asked us how many people were in our party which was perplexing as we had a booking, then proceeded to seat us at the worst table directly near the front door where there was a draught. When we asked if we could have a table further inside, she said no, but finally agreed to seat us near the window. The food was good, but the service was very slow. The waiting staff seemed to forget about us once we got our food - no checking if all was good or if we needed more drinks, and we had to ask them to come clear the empty dishes & bottles. The waitress who finally cleared the plates held her hand out & gestured for us to pass her a couple of plates that were a bit farther away. We were given the dessert menu but once again were forgotten about so we had to call the waitress over to take our dessert order. I ordered a ginger & lemon tea which I assumed would be a tea bag, but which was a few slices of lemon & a couple of small slivers of ginger… it basically tasted like plain hot water, so we asked if it could kindly be taken off the bill (£3.95) as I didn't drink it. The manager came over & started to argue with us that this is how they make the tea and she wouldn’t be taking it off the bill. We said we weren’t going to pay for what was essentially a pot of hot water so she begrudgingly took it off the bill. We had asked nicely and explained we thought it was going to be a tea bag. Her attitude was extremely rude, unapologetic and combative. It’s a shame because we like the food there, but we will never go back because of that one manager. It also spoiled my birthday. *UPDATE in response to your response: 1. I did NOT consume the tea. I had one sip. 2. You were NOT polite or apologetic. You were defensive. 3. The menu just says ‘tea’. It does not say ‘fresh’...
Read moreAmazing Spanish Restaurant in Muswell Hill. Moderately priced , Good food quality but a letdown on the service.
Quite a few people have been going to this restaurant , so since I have been on the lookout for a good Spanish restaurant , I decided to give it a go.
La Luna boast of a menu that is traditional and modern tapas, rightly so , it delivers . It is a slightly traditional with a more modern twist menu . So the authenticity is subtly delivered, but that works for this place as it has such a diverse culture surrounding it .
On arriving at La Luna , we were given a table and waited 20 mins for someone to notice us and take our orders. My guests and I both noticed that the staff didn’t seem too bothered .
Finally when we were able to get someone’s attention , food orders in and in 15 mins we received our food. Food was well presented and was good. But no one came to check on us , that resulted in us missing a plate . We waited hoping they would bring it out , but finally we had to bring it to their attention. No apologies , No “how’s the food? “ , “ would you care for something to drink “ ??? Nothing .
I come from the service industry , you know a server is least bothered when they start setting up a table (relaying) without cleaning it . The table next to ours had a stain on it , oblivious to it , the server setup the table without cleaning it .
There was sanitiser bottles on table , just left there.
Would I recommend the place ? Yes , food is good and well moderate to high priced , but it is worth the spend . But if your expecting service, don’t be surprised if your one of the lucky few who actually...
