I’m an avid reviewer and I never give 5 star reviews but this place was worth it. I never work at cafes but needed to today so I came here knowing it would be quiet. It was despite music in the background and occasional train noises when they going pass on the tracks above (the cafe is underneath train tracks). Hidden location. It had free wifi but I tried it and it didn’t work sadly :(
I got a matcha latte with oat milk and it was amazing, perfectly sweetened and rich matcha flavour unlike many chain stores. Price was good too £3.60. Oat milk was free but other alternative milks was +60p i think. I will say they have an old choice of pastry so don’t expect the conventional pain au chocolat and crossiants. From memory, they have pistachio creme cookie, cinnamon cronut and no cakes? They did have two sandwich options. Wish there were some breakfast or brunch pastries though. Didn’t get any food.
They have an upper floor lounge area with benches and sofa seating. The vibe and atmosphere was relaxing and perfect for work. Dog friendly too! One or two charging ports spotted. The barista brought my drink up the stairs to me too so I was very pleased!
Overall 9/10 experience, would defo come again if I feel like a cafe study session. Only lost 1 point due to their small range...
Read moreMy wife and I just ate at Focaccia Mia on Saturday (which btw I highly recommend) and thought we’d stop off for a coffee and pastry. A few doors down we saw La Tostadora roastery and coffee and thought we’d stop in.
There was a table open, and we ordered a simple flat white and hot chocolate, with a canelé.
What a huge disappointment. Each of our drinks were cold (like you left it out for 20 minutes kind of cold) - My flat white’s milk had more bubbles in it than my toddlers bubble wand, and the hot chocolate, besides not actually being hot, it also didn’t have any chocolatey-ness at all! But the canelé really took the top prize for its strange texture, and gloopiness. This is a pastry that is known for its caramelized crust and custardy interior. Ours was soft, dry and gloopy… I didn’t even think this was possible. We left our drinks and one-bitten canelé and walked out.
I hate to write reviews like this for local business (most of my reviews you see are fair and quite positive) but this place really disappointed us and if I were you, I’d continue to the many other amazing coffee shops...
Read moreMy friends and I came across this absolute gem of a café while visiting the sandwich spot next door, and we couldn’t be happier! Their coffee and matcha drinks were amazing, and the carrot cake was delicious as well! The barista was incredibly sweet and welcoming, even letting us enjoy our sandwiches while sipping our hot drinks. The café has a cozy seating area both inside and outside, so maybe the next time you're grabbing those viral sandwiches, you could stop by this café to accompany them with some delicious drinks. You won’t be...
