LUMI Camden — Restaurant in London

We went here after looking for something reasonably healthy before our trip to the zoo. We were recommended by Google reviews and thought we would give this place a go after seeing some amazing looking breakfast items in the customer reviews. I will start off with the positives. The food was fantastic. Tasty and fresh and the portions were massive. Breakfast foods are easy to mess up and you can tell the kitchen enjoy what they do. The serving staff were also amazing the place was heaving with a que outside and the two servers and the barrister were working over time to make sure the customers were happy and fed. And the food was tasty and quick once we got served. Now the negative. This would have been 5 stars all around if it wasn't for this. Maybe don't do your promotion shots and Instagram videos when you have a cafe full of people and a que forming outside. Having someone shouting the next visual idea and nearly knocking paying customers drinks our of their hands while they are trying to eat isnt the best idea if you want repeat customers. The photographers arse in my face while I try and drink a smoothie isn't adding to the atmosphere. It made it feel like you were trying to eat in a movie set only more chaotic. It made it feel like the customers were an after thought and its a shame cause this place is really lovely and doesn't need all the extra faff. The staff were trying to work around you all and it made it uncomfortable for the customers. It wasn't just us that noticed, the table next to us complained about it aswell. Its a shame too because we came because of customers reviews and photos not the cinematic masterpieces you were trying to create in the middle...

❌此餐馆服务员涉及歧视亚洲人 The white ponytailed waitress was the most rude service I've encountered in the six years I've lived in London. I seriously doubt she's a racist. We were treated differently because we were Asian (we were the only Asian in the restaurant during the meal）

Since my parents are elderly and we were thirsty while waiting, this rude waitress not only refused to bring us type water, but after I had been waiting for about twenty minutes (not including the time I spent standing outside the door waiting for a table) I simply asked if I could get our drinks first. She was rude and said I HAD TO wait because they were too busy. Her attitude was extremely bad. Then, when the food was served, she slammed the plate in front of us. And also she was in front of me when I like to check our bills, and I asked if she could check the bill for me. She looked at me for 2 second and then ignored my inquiry. We had to wait like five minutes for another waitress to pass the table and realize we needed the check.

Because my parents were there, I don't want to conflict with this waitress and affect the mood of my parents. Otherwise I would have asked her in the store what her attitude was and why she treated the customers so differently. Please note that this negative review is only for this waiter, the food quality is excellent and the barista at the door is very warm. I thanked him (the barista) for offering my parents a temporary seat to rest on after seeing us standing at the door for a long time. Few places manage to captivate both your taste buds and your heart, but Lumi did just that during our visit today. From the very beginning, even before stepping inside, the service was exceptional. Despite the packed house—a good sign in my experience—the gentleman who later became our server ensured we were kept informed about the wait time. When a seating area inside became available, he promptly called us in so we could escape the rain.

The interior was nothing short of sublime, with its signature whimsical giraffe holding a lamp in its mouth—a detail that made its way into the presentation of our chai and Spanish latte. These were brought to us within 10 minutes of being seated, a welcome and comforting touch after our wait.

For our meal, we chose two highly recommended dishes: the chicken and waffles, and the avocado toast. The presentation was flawless—a true Instagram dream. The taste? Simply extraordinary. The waffles were perfectly moist, paired with golden-brown, crispy chicken. The avocado toast, accompanied by eggs, was like nothing we’ve had before—an elevated classic done to perfection.

To crown the experience, our server surprised us with a complimentary dessert—a warm, soft, and delicately melting French toast—to make up for the time we spent in the cold. It was a gesture that epitomized Lumi’s attention to detail and care for its guests.
