Very disappointed with the service I received when I came today with my 2 year old. We (my friend of 1 baby and 1 3y/o) had just spent a day in the transport museum and was ready to take a moment to relax when I was met with hostility and a horrible attitude from the old boy behind the bar. At first I thought he was joking until another older male customer began to complain to me about my son playing. As a parent, I know when my son is being too much and loud. As a childcare professional I am also aware of signs and queues when a child especially of 2 years is overstimulated and frustrated. The argument with the customer was one thing, being a young single mum and dealing with the challenges of parenting alone but to have staff chime in and make me feel even smaller and helpless when all my 2 year old was doing to trigger the argument was roll down the ramp and shout “wee” which immediately I corrected him and told him to lower his voice. I am more upset that the prospect of an establishment that is meant to encourage customers and families, I am already vulnerable battling each parental struggle alone, I don’t appreciate my only and rare time to relax and enjoy a drink like normal adults do be ruined by the pressure of staff making me feel unwelcome as well as customers. I never write reviews, I am one to be empathetic and appreciate customer service may come from personal troubles but a grown man in a professional setting to make comments like he did and also join in on an argument between myself and another older male gentleman, it’s very upsetting. We shouldn’t be made to feel unwelcome just because we have children who are experiencing strong and overwhelming emotions, if anything I’m much more entitled to a drink than anybody else after tackling it. Very let down by this approach, staff should be aware of different circumstances and so children in general being a pub so close to the transport museum and open midday. I don’t add for sympathy but of empathies of how I feel, I am on my own, I am 22, I wanted to go for a quick drink before home like any other person. Just because my son was struggling with his emotions doesn’t make us any less of a customer than anybody else, I’m disgusted with how this man spoke to us/of us because my son who need I remind is 2 was behaving just as a 2 year old does. You never know if it would be enough to push a vulnerable over the edge as I was particularly...
Read moreOoo look at me sir, found another thing I can do on an app!! Although I do believe your bar man's comment of "can't get that on an app" as I nearly left my shopping was sarcastic. You have QR codes out offering an app service, if this is not available take it away. Its not fixed they are only held on by elastic bands so you could have taken them off before you opened. You have no idea what is going on in people's lives and so sometimes for some people it is better for them to use an app then interact with people and if that service is available at a time they need it they will use it. I appreciate we were told to just order at the bar but at the point we were told that the payment was processing on the app so we couldn't stop it. The food was absolutely lovely and the pub was lovely and convenient for where we were going and until the rudeness of the bar man it was a perfect compliment to a well needed lovely day out. Whilst I appreciate my emotions are tightened at the moment due to family illness and some personal issues this day was meant to be a nice day out to take my mind off things so I don't expect to be leaving a pub in tears having been told off by a bar man for using an app YOU provide and him them shouting a parting shot for...
Read moreInvited to a catch-up with a big group of old friends, walking up the stairs to the rooftop bar at the Marquis of Anglesey, I was glad it wasn’t leg day, my hamstrings and quads definitely reminded me about yesterday’s class by the time I got to the top of the stairs.
I was first to arrive, and sat at the tables we had booked. I’d recommend booking, it’s a cool spot, is well attended and it’s easy to see why, the setting couldn’t have been much better for us.
It is a great vibe, looking up at the sky from a very cool bar space. All around were people way cooler than me.
Aside from the funky space, it also has a good range of cocktails, beers, wines and was a great spot for catching up with friends.
Later, feeling a bit peckish, we headed downstairs and kept things rolling with a few more drinks and some excellent snacks.
The oysters were fresh, the three cheese croquettes were moorish and the Devon crab Welsh rarebit on sourdough had balanced flavours and as a fan of rarebit, I thought it was a nice twist.
The staff were friendly, relaxed, and looked after us without fuss, and made the night feel effortless and us feel special and well looked after. It was a great night, a great spot, and definitely worth...
