First, great location and the staff was mostly very nice and accommodating. This was not a great hotel room, especially for an extended stay (there for work for a week). The room was small, which wasn’t a huge deal except there was zero storage, no drawers or space to put away clothes, and there is literally a wall-mounted peg board that serves as your “closet”. There wasn’t anywhere to hang towels, either. There also wasn’t any countertop space that could serve as a desk, which is a big deal if you’re traveling for work. It was so awkward having to take calls sitting on a bed with your laptop propped up on a bunch of pillows. There also wasn’t an iron in the room, which isn’t ideal if you’ve got a suitcase full of wrinkled work clothes, but the front desk was able to find one I could borrow. Lastly, the shower head was broken, and the nozzle sprayed in every direction you could imagine, which meant you and the bathroom got soaked just trying to turn the water on. Had that been it, with a comfy bed, I’d have given 3 stars. That said, this was, without a doubt, the worst bed I’ve ever slept on in my entire life. The mattress is rock hard and so horrifically uncomfortable, it literally brought tears to my jet-lagged eyes. I don’t know if they got a good deal on mattresses not passing inspection or what, but it was awful. And the staff knows it - I asked for a mattress topper or another room with a softer bed, and they were so quick to apologize and offer a solution (the best they could do was another duvet to put on top of the mattress - the duvet was also hard and flattened, so didn’t accomplish anything) that this can’t be an uncommon occurrence. After 2 nights, I was seriously considering paying out of pocket for another hotel for the remainder of my trip, the mattress and pillows were that bad. There are so many other hotels that are in this price range and much nicer, go there instead, even if it’s a little bit longer of a walk. The damage this bed will do to your back, your sleep, and your sanity, is...
Read moreLet me start by saying how amazing the location of this hotel is. There are 3 underground stops within 5 minutes walking distance (Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Charing Cross). In the direct surrounding there are very tasty food options for all moments of the day. Westminster Abbey, the Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, The London Eye, Soho, many theatres and The British Museum are all within a 20 minute walking distance. There's also a supermarket across the street if you want to save costs on breakfast or lunch.
Then, the room itself. I had booked a "Double Room", which is very very small. Smaller than my 10m2 student room was. It has 1 meter of space between the door and the bed. The bathroom feels more spacious than the bedroom. Speaking of the bathroom, it looks quite nice, but as soon as you touch the fancy looking showerhead it's just cheap plastic. The door of the bathroom leaves a small gap and is made of (milky) glass, so if you're travelling with someone who you're not 100% comfortable with, going to the toilet may be an awkward experience. You will be 2 meters apart from each other at most and you can hear everything and see the shapes through the door. It had plenty of towels though and free shower gel and shampoo were also provided, which is nice.
Comfort was not something that was kept in mind when the beds were chosen. They were so hard, that I might as well have slept on a slab of stone. My back was instantly complaining the next morning. The bed is also not made for tall people, my husband of almost 2 meter didn't really fit in the bed, he had to curl up to be able to be in bed completely. For two nights this wasn't something to complain about, but I wouldn't want to sleep in a bed like that for longer than that.
That said, the staff is very friendly and they also had a room where we could leave our bag after check-out until we left, which is really nice! The 24/7 reception is a big perk as well, because even if you arrive late at night, you can...
Read moreSmall hotel at a perfect location in Covent Garden. Booked an inside queen room without window. Our Room, which was on the 4th floor, was small but cosy, quite, comfortable and clean, with a bottle of water and tea & coffee making facilities, good hairdryer, good quality towels and large bottles of bathroom soap. Space is a bit limited but was enough for us since we did not stay much in the room. There is no wardrobe but hangers on the wall board were enough for our summer clothing. We placed one luggage under the bed and the other next to the bedside table so the room was always tidy throughout our stay . Cleaning and change of towels is not done daily but we were informed during check-in that if additional maid service is requested, it can be arranged for, which was just fine for us. Good air-conditioning, wi-fi, and lighting system. I particularly liked that there was a small green bulb in the ceiling which is automatically switched on once you switch off all lights since I do not like to have a complete blackout during the night, so that was perfect for me. We pre-booked breakfast, and although it could do with some more variety (still there were cereals, bread, fruits, Greek yogurt, juices, coffees, pastries, jams etc) it was delicious and the quality was very good, especially the flat bread with omelette and bacon (which the staff patiently heated up for us) and the waffles. We were always greeted with a smile from the staff during our stay. I had some questions to ask prior to our arrival and was given a very prompt feedback from the manager, so the whole experience was a positive one from the beginning. |In summary, it is a basic hotel situated at an excellent location, comfortable enough if you do not plan to stay most of the time in the room , clean and at a reasonable price for...
